BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING BACK AT THE WEEK IN WRESTLING FROM WWE AND TNA; PLUS A LOOK BACK AT THE TOTALS ON TELEVISION AND PAY PER VIEW IN JUNE

By Richard Trionfo on 2014-07-06 16:00:00
In the five weeks since we last had all seven shows broadcast qualifying matches, the amount of wrestling that we have seen has dropped by 46 minutes. This week’s 137 minutes of wrestling was the lowest since the week of Wrestlemania 29 when we had 126 minutes of wrestling.

Raw won the week with 42 minutes of wrestling, a drop of one minute from the previous week. There was only one show that had more wrestling this week than last week, and that is the show that earned second place honors. Impact had 26 minutes of wrestling. NXT stayed in third at 23 minutes. Smackdown dropped to fourth place with 20 minutes of wrestling, its lowest total since the show before Wrestlemania. Main Event continues to stay in the teens and fifth place. Superstars had another 11 minute week to finish in last place.

For the second week in a row, no show has averaged a match length above 6 minutes. It has only happened four times in the last four weeks.

The match extremes get closer to milestone totals. We are only three matches away from 900 ten minute matches. We are a little further away from a milestone for one minute matches, but we are at 470 one minute matches. We are seven matches away from 400 one minute matches for WWE programs.

We did pass some milestones this week. NXT passed 4,000 minutes while Impact passed 6,100 minutes. We may see Main Event pass 2,000 matches next week if we can get them out of their recent tailspin into Superstars territory. We will pass 34,000 minutes next week. The 6,100 total was not only passed by Impact for the amount of wrestling, but for the total amount of matches.

The time for the Bobby Roode versus Kenny King match is for the time between the bells. It does not include the long brawl outside the ring.

This week’s episode of Ring of Honor television showed matches from War of the Worlds so there were no matches that qualified.

Because Monday was the end of June, the totals for the month are also included in this column.

The wrestling times below cover the wrestling that takes place during the show so commercials are not included. All times are rounded to the closest minute (examples: a 4:23 match will be listed as 4 minutes while a 4:32 match will be listed as 5 minutes and anything under a minute is rounded up to a minute).
