By Stuart Carapola on 2014-04-05 18:50:15
Six Man Tournament First Round: The Bravado Brothers & Moose vs Lince Dorado & The Colony

The Bravados and Moose dominate the first couple of minutes, but then Green Ant gets control of Harlem and the Colony hit him with a couple of double teams and cover for 2. Moose comes in and just hammers Fire Ant with an open palm strike, then yanks him off the mat by the neck, tosses him into the corner, and curshes him with a charging avalanche. Now Lancelot comes in and just ABUSES Fire Ant with a series of forearms across the face before taking him to the mat with a chinlock. Fire Ant is in a lot of trouble as he takes a 3-on-1 triple teaming, but he finally tags out to Dorado and he goes to town on the Bravados, then brings the Colony in to hit stereo dives on the Bravados after they go to the floor. Moose tries to football tackle Lince, Lince moves and Moose goes to the outside, and Lince tries to dive onto Moose. Moose catches him and dumps him back into the ring, but the Colony hit another stereo dive onto Moose and then Dorado takes all of them out with a dive. I f'ing HATE IT when flippy dippy indy workers are so focused on hitting their damn spots that they don't see how stupid it is when they take their own partners out with them. It makes them look like idiots and makes wrestling look fake. Green Ant goes for the CHIKARA Special, but that gets broken up when Dorado hits Lancelot with an inverted Frankensteiner. Everyone comes in and hits one big move after another until Green Ant gets Lancelot in the CHIKARA Special and forces Lancelot to tap out.

Winners: Lince Dorado & The Colony

Green Ant gets a mic and I can't really make out what he says, and then Harlem Bravado says that they were undefeated this weekend until this match, but now the Colony can have a shot at the Open The United Gate Title when EVOLVE comes to New York City. The CHIKARA guys leave and Harlem tells the crowd that they're the best team in the world, and they'll prove it by offering Bad Influence a shot at their title in the dark main event after the show goes off the air.

INTERMISSION

Okay, we're back from intermission and time for a title match...

SHINE Title Match: Ivelisse vs Mercedes Martinez

Ivelisse quickly takes Mercedes to the mat with a side headlock, but Mercedes uses her power to turn that around pretty easily. Ivelisse uses her speed to escape Mercedes' grasp, then they go back to the mat. Mercedes fights to block a cross armbreaker, and even though I live in the area and know they exist, it's weird to hear Lenny talk about Mercedes being from the mean streets of Connecticut given that wrestling fans think of it as McMahon Country. They do more back and forth stuff without anyone getting much of an advantage, but Ivelisse dodges a charge and hits a top rope crossbody for 2, then quickly gets laid out with a boot from Mercedes. Mercedes hits a pair of rolling vertical suplexes, then holds Ivelisse up for nearly 20 seconds in a delayed vertical suplex. Mercedes gets 2 off of that, but Ivelisse takes Mercedes down to the mat and gets her in a version of the Regal Stretch. Mercedes really has to struggle, but finally makes it to the ropes. Ivelisse fires off a series of kicks to Mercedes, but gets too cute with the Lucha stuff and gets dropped on her face. They trade chops and Mercedes beats Ivelisse down in the corner, then ties her up in the ropes and hammers her chest with a hard forearm. Ivelisse comes back with more hard kicks, Mercedes blocks a knockout kick and hits Ivelisse with a boot and goes for the fisherman's buster, but Ivelisse blocks and counters to a DDT that nets her a 2 count. Ivelisse goes to the top, but takes too long and MErcedes nails her, then sets up top and hits a twisting neckbreaker. She makes a cover, but Ivelisse is too close to the ropes and uses them to break the count. Ivelisse fights her way out of a Gory Special and goes for a sunset flip, but Mercedes drops down and cradles the legs for 2. Mercedes gets Ivelisse up for hte fisherman's buster, Ivelisse fights her way out, so Mercedes gets a fireman's carry and rams Ivelisse headfirst into the corner. She holds the fireman's carry and goes for a Samoan drop, but Ivelisse rolls through it into a crucifix for the win.

Winner: Ivelisse

Good match, and I liked the finish too, it made Ivelisse look like a good quick thinker. Mercedes is down and looks hurt, and she may have gotten dinged since she wasn't moving during the pinfall. Ivelisse and the ref help Mercedes to her feet and they share a nice hug as the fans applaud. Someone in the crowd called out "Heel turn!", but no such chicanery here.

Low Ki vs Johnny Gargano

Johnny Gargano gets a mic before the match and says that last night, the fans saw a very special match...where he successfully retained his title in a hard fought match that saw old women jump out of their hospital beds in excitement. On the other hand, Low Ki lost last night, but he would still make a great challenger, so he's officially declaring this an impromptu match for the Open The Freedom Gate Title. I kinda figured Gargano would have a tough time swallowing that one. Low Ki says he doesn't know what world Gargano is living in, but he's in a different reality, one where he was the NXT Season 3 Champion.

Low Ki quickly takes Gargano to the mat, Gargano rolls through and tries to cradle Low Ki, but Ki kicks Gargano's shoulder to get away. Gargano takes Ki down with a top wristlock and goes for the Gargano Escape, but Ki blocks the hold and gets away again. Ki opens up with the strikes, chopping and forearming Gargano, but Gargano takes Ki down with a waistlock and catches Ki with a kick to the face. Ki responds by kicking Gargano hard across the chest, then hits a snap elbowdrop for 2. Gargano takes Ki to the corner and shoulderblocks him hard in the ribs, then hammers Ki with a hard chop. Ki mulekicks out of a corner and covers Gargano for 2, then charges him in the corner and snapmares him over and covers for 2. Ki continues hammering Gargano, but Gargano counters a Dragon sleeper attempt by elevating him and hitting the lawn dart into the corner.

Gargano finally slowed Ki down with that one, and quickly follows up with a hangman's neckbreaker for 2. Gargano slams Ki hard and covers for 2, then gets a side Russian legsweep and ties Ki up in a modified Royal Octopus hold. Ki rolls out to the floor to try and catch a break, but Gargano goes after him, picking him up in a fireman's carry and dumping him face first on the ring apron. Gargano gets a short kick to the back of Ki's head and covers him for 2, Ki quickly tries to get Gargano up for the Ki Krusher, but Gargano snaps his arm down over the top rope and hits a divorce court for 2. Gargano hammers the arm with elbows, but Ki catches Gargano charging into the corner by getting both boots up, then leaps over Gargano and kicks him in the back of the head.

Low Ki is back in business and starts to rally, but Gargano catches him completely unawares with a superkick and covers for 2. Gargano goes for Hertz Donut, Ki victory rolls through, then leaps into the air and double stomps Gargano on the chest. That never stops looking nasty. Gargano is slumped over the middle rope, so Ki kicks him in the chest and goes for a top rope double stomp. Gargano dodges it and slingshots into the ring with a DDT for 2, then gets Ki in the Gargano Escape. He has Low Ki right in the middle of the ring, and Ki fights his way to the ropes, but Gargano uses the absolute fullest extent of the five count before breaking. Ki blocks another Hertz Donut, and he gets Gargano with another series of kicks and hits the Ki Krusher for the win.

Winner: Low Ki

Good match, not quite on the level of what either guy did yesterday, but I can understand them moving a little slower after those matches. Ki goes 1-1 for the weekend, and Gargano loses another big one and needs to be helped to the back.

The main event is up next on page 3!
