PWG GUITARMAGEDDON II - ARMORYGEDDON DVD REVIEW: HUMAN TORNADO MAKES HIS FIRST DEFENSE OF THE PWG TITLE AGAINST KEVIN STEEN, STRONG & RICHARDS CHALLENGE GENERICO & QUICKSILVER FOR TAG GOLD, CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI BATTLES CHRIS BOSH, AND MORE

By Stuart Carapola on 2011-04-15 10:00:00
The PWG World Title is on the line in the next match, as new champion Human Tornado makes his first title defense against former champion, Kevin Steen. Steen attacks Tornado during his entrance and beats him up on the floor before taking him into the ring and continuing the assault there, working Tornado over with heavy chops and kicks. Tornado went to the floor and hit a sweet, 619-esque legsweep and then hit a springboard move into the ring, but Steen kicked him hard in the head to put him back down. Steen took Tornado back out to the floor and dished out more punishment, then threw him back into the ring. Tornado tried a dive through the ropes but Steen blocked and just drove his skull into the apron. Finally Steen went for a legdrop on the apron and missed, giving Tornado an opening to make a comeback. That didn't last long before Steen rammed Tornado into the ringpost and threw him back in the ring and continued working over the head and neck of the champion to set up for the Package Piledriver. Steen got a hard back suplex and then hit a snapmare and a running tackle off the ropes for 2, then the somersault legdrop gets another 2. Finally Tornado began firing back, dumping Steen to the floor and hitting a somersault dive over the top. A slugfest ensued when they got back in the ring and Tornado wiped Steen out with the Pounce and followed up with a bulldog for 2. Steen came out of nowhere with a leaping enziguiri and followed that with a Michinoku Driver for 2, but a Swanton attempt met with Tornado's knees. Tornado pimp slapped Steen, but Steen responded with a massive chop and went for a superplex, but Tornado blocked and KILLED Steen with a top rope tornado DDT that dropped Steen right on top of his head. Steen was badly rattled, but came back with a pump handle neckbreaker and went for the Swanton again, but the Dynasty ran out and attacked Steen to cause the DQ finish. They put the boots to both Steen and Tornado, and then Joey Ryan grabbed the mic and said he gets a rematch any time he wants, and he wants it right now. The bell had barely rung before Topgun Talwar made his return to PWG, coming out of the back with a scimitar clenched between his teeth and wearing a turban, sunglasses, short shorts, and a bra cupped over his butt cheeks. Joey was so shocked by this disgusting display of fashion that Tornado was able to slip in behind him and roll him up for a quick three count.

This all leads us into our main event, as El Generico & Quicksilver, collectively known as Caped Fear, defend the PWG Tag Team Title against Roderick Strong & Davey Richards. Caped Fear spent probably about a year chasing Richards and Super Dragon for the title, finally winning it late in 2006. Davey and Strong also held the title in late 2006, but only held the title for one day, so this is their chance to regain the title and hopefully hold onto it. Roderick and Davey sneak attacked the champs before the bell, but quickly found themselves on the floor and on the receiving end of stereo top rope dives from Generico and Quicksilver. Roderick turned it around and grounded Generico with some high impact offense, but Generico came back with the ten punch count in the corner and tried the Ole tornado DDT, but Richards tripped Generico off the top and crotched him on the top rope.

Now the No Remorse Corps take over, with Davey hitting the triple chop and going for the stepover kick, but Generico covered up so Davey waited for him to open up and hit a pair of kicks. Roderick hits a hard slam and a wheelbarrow into a half nelson backbreaker for 2. Nice. Davey with a really hard slam and a casual cover for 2 as he jaws with a ringside fan, but that allowed Generico an opening to hit a chinbreaker and make the tag to Quicksilver, who came in with a sweet springboard forearm and then went for the Silver Slice, but Davey drilled him in the face with a kneestrike and rammed him back to the NRC corner. Roderick comes in and hits a butterfly suplex for 2, then tags in Davey to deliver a side backbreaker before baiting Generico into the ring so Roderick can drag Quicksilver out to the floor and just launch Quicksilver into the ringpost, and then picking him up and dumping him back into the ring. The NRC again baited Generico into the ring and did a false switch behind the ref's back and then Roderick hit a slingshot Falcon Arrow suplex for 2, and then another backbreaker for another 2. Roderick then locks Quicksilver into what can only be described as an Indian Deathlock/straitjacket/camel clutch. Davey tags in and hits a side salto for 2, then dumps Quicksilver back out to the floor for more abuse from Roderick, who now picks him up in a bearhug and rams his back into the ringpost. Quicksilver gets back in the ring where Davey unloads on him with more hard kicks and then catches Quicksilver in a seated abdominal stretch, which he converts into a crucifix for 2. Quicksilver tries to fight his way out of the NRC corner and goes to the second rope, but Davey kicks him in the back and then Roderick yanks him off the top by the foot and right into a backbreaker in a really cool sequence, but that only gets 2. Quicksilver escapes a suplex and gets a schoolboy rollup for 2, but Davey transitions that right into the LeBell Lock, years before Danielson made it cool. Generico stomps Davey in the head to break it up, but Davey continues the beating while soaking in the boos of the crowd. Roderick ties Quicksilver in what looks like a hanging Indian Deathlock, then yanks Quicksilver up and powerbombs him for 2. Quicksilver goes for a sunset flip and bridges off his back, hitting a neckbreaker and finally making the hot tag.

Generico comes in with a flying bodypress on Roderick, then crotches Davey on the middle rope, sits him on the middle rope, and hits a Lionsault. Davey goes out to the floor so Generico goes up to the top rope and tries to drag Davey up top with him, but Roderick comes back into the ring with blood dripping down his face and nails Generico from behind. Roderick goes for a move off the ropes but Quicksilver comes in and hits a spinebuster on Roderick, then dives onto Davey on the floor as Generico covers for 2. Generico hits a Blue Thunder Driver for 2, but Roderick nails Generico and hits a powerbomb into a backbreaker for 2. The side of Roderick's face is just covered with blood as he tags Davey back in to go at it with Generico and he hits the Alarm Clock and a Falcon Arrow suplex for 2, then turns it right into the Condo Clutch. Quicksilver tries to come in and help, but Roderick boots him in the face and puts him in the Stronghold. Both champions are in trouble, but Generico fights his way to the ropes. Quicksilver and Roderick go to ringside and Quicksilver rams Roderick into the post as Davey goes up for the Shooting Star Press, but Generico gets the knees up. Quicksilver gets a climbing enziguiri in the corner on Davey and Generico rolls him up for 2. Generico pulls Roderick into the ring, but Roderick dumps him to the floor and goes at it with Quicksilver. Quicksilver puts Roderick up top and goes for a Frankensteiner, but Davey runs up behind him and German suplexes Quicksilver off the top. Generico comes in and nails Davey, who goes for the handspring enziguiri, but Generico catches him and hits the half and half suplex, then does it again, then turns around to catch a leaping kneestrike off the second rope by Roderick.

Roderick unloads on Generico with chops, forearms, and kicks and then tries to powerbomb Generico, but Generico hits a Frankensteiner and goes for the Yakuza Kick in the corner, but Roderick catches his leg and hits a cradle backbreaker. Davey measures Generico and hits a running forearm before hitting a crazy dive through the ropes onto Quicksilver. Roderick hits the Sick Kick and covers for 2, then picks Generico up on his shoulders and Davey hits a missile dropkick but that still only gets 2. Quicksilver dodges a charge by Davey, who goes sailing out to the floor, and then exchanges blows with Roderick in the middle of the ring and, amazingly, comes out on top. Roderick backdrops Quicksilver to the floor, but Generico catches him with the running Yakuza Kick, Quicksilver hits the tornado sunset piledriver, and Generico finishes Roderick with the brainbuster to successfully defend the title.

Nothing earth-shattering happened on this show, but it did feature some really good matches. My personal favorite was Claudio vs Bosh, but the PWG Title match was a lot of fun to watch just to see Steen manhandle Tornado, and both that match and the tag title match saw Steen, Roderick, and Richards at their sadistic best, laying hellacious beatings on their opponents. Karl Anderson joining the Dynasty was the only real storyline development on this show, so you'd probably be able to skip this one if you care about following the ongoing saga of PWG, but if you're just in it for the matches, I thought the last three matches were good and worth buying the DVD to see.

Next time: Holy Diver Down!
