FULL SUMMERSLAM REPORT

By Buck Woodward on 2004-08-16 11:02:00

Randy Orton was shown backstage with Todd Grisham, cutting a promo about how he is the best young superstar in WWE.  He was interrupted by John Cena, thanking him for the introduction, since he feels he is the best young star in WWE. Cena said he would hook up Orton with some Cena wristbands and merch later, since he did such a good job.  Cena asked the crowd if they thought Orton could beat Chris Benoit, and the fans booed.  Cena left, and Orton got back to business, saying he would be the youngest World Champion ever tonight.

Match One In A Best Of Five Series: U.S. Champion Booker T vs. John Cena.  Cena wore a Blue Jays jersey to the ring, and tossed it out to the Toronto fans.  The two met in center ring and began exchanging punches, with Booker getting the better of it.  Cena ducked a clothesline and hit a lariat of his own.  They two trash talked, with Cena pushing Booker.  Booker calmed down, and went into wrestling, reversing a hammerlock and hitting a chop.  Cena came back immediately, hitting the Throwback neckbreaker, but Booker picked up Cena and crotched him on the top rope.  Booker knocked Cena to the floor, then hit a double axhandle off the apron to the lower back of Cena.  Booker rammed Cena head first into the ring apron and tossed him back into the ring.  Booker hit a back kick and a kneedrop, then pounded him with right hands on the mat. Booker hit some forearms, but Cena battled back with punches, only to be taken down by a Booker side kick. Booker applied a came clutch, but Cena powered up, lifting Booker and ramming him into the turnbuckles.  Cena hit some back elbows, but Booker reversed a whip into the corner and hit a spinebuster.

Booker delivered a sideslam, then applied a rear chinlock. Cena came up with a small package from nowhere for a two count, but Booker kicked out and floored Cena with a clothesline.  Booker went for an ax kick, but Cena rolled out of the way and Booker crashed on the mat. Cena delivered a series of rights, booted a charging Booker T, and delivered a shoulderblock, but Booker grabbed Cena in a flapjack.  Booker spun up to his feet, but Cena quickly grabbed him in an FU for the pin at the seven minute mark.

Winner:  John Cena. He now leads 1-0 in the Best Of Five Series.
