PWINSIDER Q&A: HULK HOGAN, WWE TOURS, JONATHAN COACHMAN AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2009-06-11 10:00:00

Do you think after all that has been said and done that Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea) has destroyed everything he has built throughout his entire wrestling career? That his reputation and name has been damaged beyond repair?

No.  I think that if "Real American" blared out in an arena and Hulk Hogan walked out, he'd still get a pop and a lot of appreciation from wrestling fans.  As ridiculous as all of his family/reality TV crap has been, I think his stature as the greatest wrestling attraction of all time will outlive it.  In 20 years, people will remember Hulk Hogan the wrestler, not Hulk Hogan the reality TV fiasco (at least, that's what I hope).

Does the WWE conduct tours at their main office in Stamford, CT? Can anyone walk in or do you need some form of identification? Is it open to the public?

No, the offices are not open to the public and there are no tours of the building. You can go walk in the lobby, and that's about as far as you will get.

I know that heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield retired only to return to don the gloves again. Speculation was that he missed boxing. Even though he was a millionaire he just couldn't stay away from boxing. Are wrestlers generally like that? Simply can't keep themselves from the sights and sounds of wrestling? Ric Flair is possibly a fine example. A man with nothing more to prove but doesn't want to fade into the background. Thoughts?

There's definitely an attraction to the spotlight that keeps many wrestlers from being able to retire.  As long as their bodies allow them to do so, they keep coming back for more.  However, you can't doubt the power of the almighty dollar as well, especially in the case of someone like Ric Flair, who simply isn't in a financial position where he can walk away, even if he wants to.

I read where Jack and Jerry Brisco owned a car repair shop in Florida. Is this true? If so, do they still own it? Did they ever take an active role in the business or is their participation in name only?

Yes, they have a car repair shop in Tampa, Florida, and Jack is very much involved in running the business.

Please forgive me if this question is out of line. Were you surprised that ESPN hired former WWE announcer Jonathan "The Coach" Coachman as a part of Sportscenter? I was believe me. Some might remark ESPN hires just anybody, don't they? Response?

Not at all.  Coachman showed with his work on basketball broadcasts that he was a capable host and not someone who couldn't exist outside of the "wrestling bubble" on television.  Personally, I think hiring Coach was a much better move by ESPN than putting Tony Kornheiser in the announce booth for Monday Night Football (a move they have now, thankfully, corrected).
