WWE once again released WWE NXT, Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling Champion Samoa Joe earlier today, PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple WWE sources.
Joe, one of the best big men of the modern era, signed with WWE NXT in 2015 after legendary runs as the Ring of Honor Champion and a feud with CM Punk that literally saved the company from destruction. He went on to becomes one of the cornerstone stars of Impact Wrestling, including feuds with Kurt Angle, Sting and more.
Joe had been released in April 2021 following Wrestlemania 37 after being part of the announcing team for that event but was quickly re-hired to be part of Triple H's NXT team, returning initially as on camera muscle for NXT General Manager William Regal while also planned to work behind the scenes on talent recruitment and scouting as part of that version of NXT alongside Canyon Ceman and Regal. Joe returned to the ring briefly to win the WWE NXT Championship before being sidelined again with health issues as WWE moved forward with the NXT 2.0 incarnation.
Joe joins a number of other Triple H-regime era NXT staffers who have been cut over the last 24 hours, including Regal, Gabe Sapolsky, Ace Steel, Brian and Scott James and Ryan Katz, among others.
The news of Joe's release was first reported by Fightful.com. As noted above, PWInsider.com has independently confirmed Joe's release.
