EXCLUSIVE: MORE 'YOUNG ROCK' CASTING, PRODUCTION NOTES

By Mike Johnson on 2021-10-14 15:11:00

PWInsider.com has reported recently on a number of professional wrestling personalities being cast for the second season of NBC's Young Rock, which will begin to film later this year in Australia in advance of debuting next year.

PWInsider can confirm that casting is underway for someone to portray WWE Hall of Famer Nikolai Volkoff.  The intention is to have Volkoff potentially appear as a team with The Iron Sheik, who was played Brett Azar by in season one.

We can also confirm that the casting for someone to play Bam Bam Bigelow, which we broke several weeks back is for someone to play Bigelow the person but not the Bigelow character.  We are told the character would actually be (initially) in a Memphis Wreslting-era episode, with the future Bam Bam Bigelow playing Crusher Yurkov.  The character may recur in future episodes.

There is a possibility that the Memphis-era Jerry Lawler, who they have been working on casting, may also become a recurring character on the series should they go back to that era for future episodes.

The reason the series is recasting Ric Flair is that Matthew Farrelly, who portrayed Flair in a sequence against Rocky Johnson in season one, is no longer available as he's currently signed to WWE NXT as Grayson Waller  and is residing in Orlando, Florida while the series shoots in Australia.

Production on the series' second season is slated to begin later this month and run through late January 2022.

Chavo Guerrero is currently quarantining in Australia in advance of working as the wrestling coordinator for the season.
