COMBAT ZONE WRESTLING ANNOUNCES FIRST EVENT IN OVER A YEAR, EXCLUSIVE DETAILS ON PLANNED SALE OF PROMOTION THAT DIDN'T TAKE PLACE

By Mike Johnson on 2021-10-11 22:14:00

Combat Zone Wrestling announced minutes ago they would be running "Renaissance of Tradition",  a benefit event on 10/24 at Studio Z in Blackwood, NJ, their first event since March 2020 when the promotion shuttered operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The event has been announced a "Pay What You Wish" event, as all proceeds will be donated to www.BreastCancer.org in conjunction with October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Although there have been monthly PPV broadcasts from Stonecutter Media using repurposed CZW footage it has licensed, this is the first signs of life for CZW in many, many months.

PWInsider.com can exclusively confirm that at one point, there was a signed Memorandum of Understanding  for Game Changer Wrestling to purchase and revitalize CZW, but DJ Hyde ultimately had second thoughts and pulled out of the deal.  GCW instead turned its attention to revitalizing Jersey Championship Wrestling, JCW, instead.  Hyde remains the owner of CZW.

Talents announced for 10/24 include Fred Yehi, Lucky 13 and Diego Hill.  Additional names will be announced on CZW's social media accounts.

There is no word whether the promotion will return to a regular schedule.  December is usually the promotion's biggest event of the year, The Cage of Death, but with no storylines and no momentum, that's an expensive undertaking to attempt.

One thing the promotion will need to address is the status of its championship as CZW's last Champion, Joe Gacy, is now signed to a WWE NXT deal, so he wouldn't be available to return to drop the title.
