AEW HAS EXCELLENT FIRST DAY SALES FOR NYC DEBUT

By Mike Johnson on 2021-07-16 19:29:00

All Elite Wrestling sold a huge amount of tickets for their New York City debut on 9/22 at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.  We are told both the promotion and USTA Arthur Ashe Stadium officials are very happy with the strong response for the event.

Currently, beyond a few random single seats, the only available tickets on Ticketmaster.com for the event are in the upper deck of the Stadium, as well as sections that would be behind the entrance stage.  We are told those sections were not initially going to be opened up today, but were released for sale late today due to the demand for tickets.

We are told that the promotion will continue to open up seating as needed until AEW finalizes production for the event that evening.  The expectation within the promotion is that between the 9/15 New Jersey debut at the Prudential Center and the NYC debut, they will have brought in the area of 30,000 fans in the NYC Metropolitan area.

The 9/22 Dynamite Grand Slam will be the first-ever professional wrestling event at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest tennis stadium in the world, sitting over 23,000 for tennis.  AEW will broadcast Dynamite live on TNT that evening.  They will also tape content for Dark - Elevation before Dynamite and will tape the 9/24 edition of AEW Rampage to close out the taping.

The initial configuration for NYC was in the 17,000 range, but the promotion could open up for even more fans if they deem necessary.  It appears the taping will easily be the highest attended episode of Dynamite in AEW history and may already be close to breaking that record sales-wise.

The Stadium has a retractable roof, so AEW will be able to run no matter the weather conditions.  The taping will obviously be a homecoming for a number of AEW stars who hail from the NYC Metropolitan area, including Eddie Kingston, MJF, Santana, Ortiz, Alex Reynolds, John Silver, Max Caster, Kris Statlander, Beretta and many more.
