LOTS OF AEW DOUBLE OR NOTHING & BEYOND NEWS AND NOTES

By Mike Johnson on 2021-06-01 10:15:00

As loud as the live audience came across during Double or Nothing 2021 over the weekend, we are told that live, the crowd in Jacksonville, Florida was even louder.  It was very much an emotional night for a lot of the talents to work in front of that many fans, especially those who came to the company after the pandemic began.

There was a HUGE pop in the locker room among the talents for Sting's work during his tag match at the Double or Nothing PPV.

Much of the Stadium Stampede match that took place inside the Stadium was taped Friday evening with the remainder, including some of the MJF vs. Chris Jericho brawl in the officies of TIAA Stadium, taking place live Sunday night, leading into the portion of the match that took place before the fans live at Daily's Place.

Early PPV sale numbers for the digital end were extremely positive.

The Jacksonville Jaguars' Urban Meyer and Charlie Strong making a cameo during The Stadium Stampede helped AEW get some attention on FOX News and The New York Post, among other outlets.

Jon Moxley wore a t-shirt featuring the late Trent Acid to the ring during the PPV.  Moxley had been holding onto the shirt for years waiting for the right time to wear it.  On a personal note, seeing Moxley pay tribute to Acid, who passed away in 2010, meant the world to me personally and I can only hope that his family was made aware of the tribute.

Tony Lewis of StrictlyECW fame stated that he felt the AEW Double or Nothing PPV was the "most fun" PPV he had watched at home dating back to ECW's Heatwave 1998, which was the all-time best ECW PPV presentation.

The addition of WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry brings another veteran, who alongside Paul Wight, Chris Jericho and Christian Cage, is expected to give advice and help younger members of the AEW roster.  Wight have built quite a reputation in recent months for approaching talent and mentoring them about their matches and things they can to do try and add to their work or tweak things that might not work 100%.  Henry was backstage at the first AEW PPV several years ago.

Tickets are now on sale for this Friday's Dynamite taping in Jacksonville, Florida at www.AEWTix.com.

Tickets for the first AEW Dynamite on the road in Miami have done excellent sales and the belief is there will be a sellout in advance.  PWInsider.com will be looking for live thoughts and results of the tapings when the company returns to its pre-pandemic touring schedule.

Comedian Brad Williams was in attendance visiting at the PPV.  We are told Williams is close friends with Lance Hoyt.

There were about 1,000-1,500 in attendance at the company's first-ever official Fanfest this past Saturday.  We have heard nothing but praise for the organization and logistics of how that was handled.  There are early plans for another Fanfest this September in Chicago.

AEW's Full Gear PPV will be Saturday 11/6 in St. Louis at the Chaifetz Arena.

The current plan is for the debut episode of AEW Rampage on 8/13 to broadcast live on TNT.  Some episodes will be taped after Dynamite, but not all.   The company is working out how this will all flow together going forward, but there will be some tweaks to the taping format and schedule of Dark and Elevation once the company returns to the road full-time.

AEW President Tony Khan personally apologized to Hikaru Shida, who commented on the release of Willie Urbina over the weekend without mentioning Urbina by name via Twitter:

Paul Jordan sent the following:

AEW star "Powerhouse" Will Hobbs is on today's Oral Sessions with Renée Paquette Podcast. Hobbs talks about raising kids at a young age, growing up with his grandparents, connecting over professional wrestling, the tragedy of his brother, independent wrestling in California, WWE tryouts and extra work, the serendipity of the AEW offer, future plans, Team Taz, working with Christian and more.

Joey Janela tweeted:

For those that didn't watch AEW Dark : Elevation in between matches taped this past weekend were interviews conducted after the pay-per-view with Tony Schiavone:
