FYTERFEST MAIN EVENT ANNOUNCED, HOW LONG BRITT BAKER & FENIX WILL BE OUT, JON MOXLEY ON WHY HE HAD A CHIP ON HIS SHOULDER, CODY ON TNT TITLE WIN & MORE: POST DOUBLE OR NOTHING PPV MEDIA SCRUM COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2020-05-24 00:01:00

AEW President Tony Khan

Khan was asked the rules for cashing in the casino chip.  Khan announced it will be Moxley vs. Brian Cage at Fyterfest 2020.  They will announce further details on Wednesday's Dynamite.

On the new, larger names being brought in - Brian Cage, Lance Archer and Brodie Lee - in close proximity, Khan said they are all special in their own way and they have all come through for AEW so far.  They all have their own stories going forward.

ESPN asked about the Stadium Stampede match, how that gets laid out and shot and what restrictions they had.  They are all really proud of it.  They all took a hand in laying out.  He was lucky that the Jaguars organization gave them access to make it happen.  Everyone brought multiple big spots and ideas.  He hopes it can be a signature match for AEW and something fans will always remember.  When a band puts together a song, everyone has a part and this was like that.  They hadn't really been together in months, especially the Bucks.  Everyone brought something to the table.  He guesses Chris Jericho will be doing a lot of podcasts about how it came together.  He's really thankful to everyone who came in and worked and everyone who watched the show.  He said that it appears a good number of people ordered the PPV and that means a lot to him.

Orange Cassidy showed up and Tony Khan said he tried to explain the Casino Ladder Match 100 times to him.  Cassidy asked if he won the match.  Khan had to tell him no.

ComicBook.com asked Khan what his thoughts on cinematic matches.  He said that a smart man in wrestling once said when great wrestling is done right, nothing is better.  If it's done poorly, nothing is worse.  He said he feels the same way about the cinematic presentation.

Orange Cassidy remained and wondered how all this worked.

Jonathan Snowden from Bleacher Report asked about the finish of the Stadium Stampede.  Khan said it would have been difficult to do had it not been produced like a cinematic match.  Khan said they did a lot to make it safe, but no amount of preparation would have mattered if they didn't have some of best wrestlers in the world involved.

Dave Meltzer asked about the performances of the undercard talents and asked Khan who he thought were the stars of the show tonight in that regard.  Khan said everyone in the ladder match stepped up since Fenix was hurt.  Everyone in the title matches stepped up.  Sammy Guevara did great.  It was great to have The Young Bucks back.  It was a great night for the Inner Circle.  He also pointed out Jungle Boy and MJF.

Orange Cassidy put his sunglasses on Khan.  That was funny.

Khan said everyone who was there was tested for COVID-19 tonight.

I asked Khan about injuries changing the show.  He was grateful to Penelope Ford vs, Kris Statlander for working after Britt got injured.  Everyone stepped up in the Casino Ladder Match.  They dodged bullets with the injuries.  They were terrified coming out of Dynamite and didn't know for sure what their status would be until yesterday.  They expect Britt Baker to be out about six weeks and she will address is on Dynamite on Wednesday.  Fenix is still limping and it wouldn't have been smart to put him out there but they believe he'll be back soon.  He appreciates everyone who came through for them with all the last minute changes.  They thankfully didn't have to change a ton on the show.

Khan was asked about a women's ladder match being a possibility.  He said it would be and put over the work ethic of his women's roster.  He is also happy with the AEW Heels virtual gathering and loves seeing how that went and said he is learning a lot from it.

He was asked about MJF vs. Jungle Boy and the favorable comparisons it got to Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat online.  He said that's the best compliment one can hope for.  He said they are signed to AEW throuigh the end of 2024 and they are important to the company.  They are young, potential World Champions and main eventers and they hadn't wrestled a lot out of AEW.  They were on live TV and had only done a few things together and they adjusted to a time change like total pros.  For guys their age, they are two of the highest level pro wrestlers in the world.  They are both students of wrestling and what they are going for before the shut-down and they are happy to get back there.

They were asked about Brian Cage's deal.  He was injured when he signed.  He said he had an idea for Taz and Brian all along and paid him while he was hurt.  He was always going to be cleared in May but Cage didn't know what he was going to be coming in to do.  Khan kayfabed him on the plans.  Moxley vs. Cage at Fyterfest is going to be often.  He's happy Taz and Cage were able to have that moment tonight.  He would have had them do something sooner but Cage was injured.  This was always the plan and they are where he envisioned them to be.

Khan said that Fyterfest was originally planned for London but now obviously, it can't happen.  They had a ton of huge matches they had planned.  The first Fyterfest was a huge day for new customers for Bleacher Report Live.  He wanted to take it to England but they can't now.  He can't say what the venue was going to be.  He looks forward to the day when they can run shows over there and not have to test everyone.

Khan was asked about the Taz-Cage pairing.  He said he loves the pairing and its something he has wanted to do.  Cage is the guy in the draft who kills all the workouts.  Taz can bring a new dimension to him with submissions.  Taz is one of the best promos in the history of wrestling in terms of what he was able to do and get out of his promos without being at a great height, speed or being the strongest.  Taz is going to bring a great legitimacy to Cage. When Darby Allin blew him off, Taz went and got someone bigger and better.

Khan said he hopes everyone who watched got their money's worth out of PPV and enjoyed it.
