By Mike Johnson on 2020-04-05 13:01:00

ROH Champion Jay Lethal vs. Marty Scurll vs. Matt Taven - Ladder Match.

Five ladders at ringside.

Taven had a live piano player play him out as well as some pyro.

Big reaction for Scurll.

Everyone brawled to the floor.  Lethal grabbed a ladder in the aisle and slammed it down  He suplexed Taven on the floor.   Lethal placed the ladder between two chairs on the floor but before he could use it, Taven attacked him.  Scurll hit a tornado DDT off the apron to the floor on Taven and brought several ladders into the ring.  Taven hit the ring but was sent into several ladders.  Lethal returned to the fray and nailed a suplex on Scurll.

Lethal placed a ladder on the bottom turnbuckle.  He and Scurll chopped each other back and forth.  Lethal tried to send Scurll into the ladder but was caught and sent into it, then tied to the tree of woe with his head inside one of the ladder rungs.  Scurll beat the ladder again and again with the chair.  He set up a ladder and tried to use his umbrella to hook the ROH title belt.  Taven pulled him off the ladder and drilled him with a superkick.

Taven began ascending the ladder but Lethal pulled him down and dispatched him.  Scurll began nailing chops and uppercuts on the Champion.  Lethal tried to block a move but was kicked in the leg.  Scurll placed a ladder on Lethal's head but Taven pulled him out and kicked the ladder into Lethal's head.  The crowd booed Taven.   Taven started to climb the ladder but Scurll attacked him with chops and clotheslined him over the top to the floor.  He superkicked him from the apron.  MSG loved that.

Scurll climbed the ladder but Lethal pulled him down and locked in the figure four leglock through the ladder.  That allowed Taven a window to climb up unemcumbered but Lethal stopped him.   Lethal slammed a ladder over Scurll's back.   He went for the figure four but was kicked off and out of the ring by Marty.  Marty went for a dive but his knee buckled and Lethal nailed a stunner on the apron.  Lethal went to climb the ladder but Taven attacked him, then slid under him outside and hit a running powerbomb through the ladder on the chairs in the aisle.

Scurll, now limping, set up a ladder.  Taven returned to the ring but was peppered with chops.  Scurll set up a ladder in the corner.  He went to suplex Taven into the ladder but it was blocked.  He set up Taven in the ropes and nailed a 619.  Scurll went for the chicken wing but Taven had him scouted and drilled him.  The crowd chanted, "F*** you Taven."   Taven worked him over and nailed a neckbreaker.  He set up a ladder in the corner.  Marty set another up in another corner.  They battled atop the ladder in the corner.  Marty superplexed Taven into the ring.

Scurll began beating Taven with the umbrella.  Lethal returned and went for the Lethal Injection but got caught.  Scurll went for the chicken wing but Lethal nailed him and sent him out of the ring.  Lethal set up the ladder and began climbing a ladder.  Taven followed him up but Lethal punched him off.  Lethal went to grab the belt but Scurll came up the other side of the ladder and locked in the chicken wing on top of the ladder.  He shoved Lethal off but Taven met Scurll on top.

Taven went to reach for the ladder but Marty grabbed his hands and snapped the fingers.  Scurll was knocked off and came down, grabbing his knee.  Taven tried to grab the belt but his fingers were "dislocated" so he dropped down and tried to pop them back into place.  MSG chanted, "You deserve it!"  That's funny.

The battle continued with Lethal hitting the Lethal Injection into a ladder on Taven.  He sent Scurll into a ladder in the corner.  He charged at him with another ladder but missed, interlocking the two ladders into an "X" position.    Taven attacked Scurll and went to suplex him into the X but it was reversed and Taven crashed chest first onto the X.  Jay hit a Lethal Injection on Marty.

Lethal tossed the X ladders out and one of them looked to land in the first row.  Referees ran to check that everyone was OK.  The fans chanted "That's a lawsuit!"

Taven suplexed Lethal on the floor.  Scurll and Taven battled on the apron above a table.  Lethal was kicked off the apron.  Taven tackled Scurll and they crashed through the table.  The crowd chanted "You still suck."

Lethal pulled a MASSVIE ladder out from under the ring.  Taven was placed on a table below.    Lethal came off the top with a flying elbow through the table.  Fans chanted, "Randy Savage" in the upper deck.    Marty recovered and dragged himself into the ring.  He climbed to the top.  Lethal met him at the top and they battled.  Taven pulled a PURPLE ladder out (his color) and set it next to them.  It was way bigger than the one they were brawling atop of.  They battled and bridged two ladders from the ropes to the purple ladder.  Scurll was knocked out to the floor.

Lethal and Taven brawled atop the ladder.  Taven drilled him in the face with the ROH belt.  Lethal crashed down through one of the ladders.  Taven retrieved the belt.

Your winner and new ROH Champion, Matt Taven!

This GREATLY exceeded my expectations.  A hell of a war.

They aired a video package of all the past IWGP Champions.

IWGP Heavyweight Champion Jay White vs. Kazuchika Okada.

MASSIVE roar and chant for Okada.

They locked up and began muscling each other back and forth, trying to get an advantage.  They ended up against the ropes.  Okada teased a chop but let it go.  Mind games from the Rainmaker.  Gedo messed with him outside.  White controlled Okada with a headlock.

Okada took control and nailed a hangman’s Neckbreaker.  He snapmared White over and prepared for a dropkick but White went to the floor.  Okada followed and they brawled.  White tried to whip Okada into the railing but it was reversed.  Okada hit a running big boot, sending him into the crowd.  He pulled White back over but White slammed him backward into the ring post and nailed a DDT on the floor.

White worked over Okada for some time, nailing chops and hitting a big back suplex for a two count.  White scored several two counts but Okada made a comeback and nailed several elbows.  He nailed a leaping back elbow in the corner.  White fired back with several kicks to the face but Okada caught the leg, put him on the top rope and dropkicked him off the top to the floor.  The crowd chanted for Okada.

Okada tossed White over the railing into the crowd.  Gedo got involved so he tossed Gedo into the crowd.   Okada charged and dove over the railing into the crowd, wiping them out.  That was cool as hell.  Okada brought him back into the ring and went for the Kryptonite Krunch but White battled his way out.  White made a comeback and scored several two counts.  Okada missed a charge in the corner.  White charged but Okada caught him and nailed the Kryptonite Krunch.  He was too tired to make the cover.

The battle went back and forth.  Okada nailed a tombstone for a two count.  They battled back and forth with strikes and punches.  Gedo tried to get involved and was knocked off the apron.  Okada nailed a big dropkick to the head, avoided the Killswitch and nailed The Rainmaker clothesline but White kicked up at the last second.  Everyone was shocked, especially Okada.  The crowd chanted for Okada.  Okada went for the tombstone but White reversed it into a STO.  They were both out and unable to make a cover.  The crowd clapped and rallied them.

They recovered to their knees and exchanged blows.  White began to tired out.   Okada began to fire up.  Gedo tried to get in the ring but was admonished by the referee.  As that happened, White lowblowed Okada.    The crowd chanted "F*** you Gedo."    White went for the Switchblade but Okada nailed a back suplex.  They went back and forth trying to hit finishers until Okada nailed a dropkick and called for the Rainmaker.   White tried to battle him off with elbows and kicks but was nailed with it.

White ate another but tried to go for his finisher.  Okada nailed a tombstone and was hit with another Rainmaker and pinned him for the title.

Your winner and new IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Kazuchika Okada!

An exceptional match.  Just incredible physical storytelling with a crowd that was along for the ride every step of the way.  Incredible stuff.

Okada was presented the title and it was wrapped around his waist.

After they went off the air, Okada took the house mic and said, "New York!"   The crowd chanted, "You deserve it."  Okada said he wanted to say thank you.  Thank you to Ring of Honor.  Thank you to New Japan Pro Wrestling.  Thank you to all the fans around the world - thank you!  The crowd chanted for Okada.  He said, "See you next time" and closed out in Japanese.

Between Takeover NY and this show, it was probably the best back to back two nights of pro wrestling I've ever seen.
