CODY VS. ALDIS, OMEGA VS. PENTA, HUGE NAME APPEARS, BUCKS & BUSHI VS. TEAM MYSTERIO & MORE: COMPLETE ALL IN COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2018-09-01 17:13:00

NWA Champion Nick Aldis vs. Cody with Earl Hebner refereeing.

Brandi Rhodes came out first.

Cody was accompanied by Tommy Dreamer, DDP, Glacier, his father in law and his brother in law, as well as his dog Pharoah.  It felt like a UFC entrance with the fighter hugging his fight team as he prepared to enter the Octagon.

MASSIVE Cody chant.  Total big fight feel.  Anyone who argues the NWA title didn't matter in 2018 was proven incorrect with just the ring entrance here.   Cody kissed the mat when he entered

Nick Aldis was accompanied by Jeff Jarrett, Shawn Daivari, Tim Storm and Sam Shaw.

Earl Hebner gave instructions on the mic and put over they were fighting for the Ten Pounds of Gold.

They had a big staredown at the bell.

They circled each other and locked up as the fans chanted “All In.”  They had some nice back and forth wrestling early on.  Cody ducked a shoulder tackle but was nailed with another.  Aldis was sent to the floor and hit with a tope.  The crowd chanted for Cody.

They battled on the floor with Aldis nailing a suplex.  Aldis drilled him into the ring post back-first.    Aldis brought him back to the ring, nailing a Perfectplex for a two count.  He locked on a side headlock but Cody fought to his feet.  Aldis whipped Cody into the corner hard.

Cody caught him with a punch from underneath but was drilled with a big lariat.  Cody was drilled but came back with a superkick.  He went for the CrossRhodes but Aldis nailed a snapmare.  They battled and each hit a bodyblock at each other at the same time.  Aldis went to the floor to recover.  Cody went for a double springboard move to the floor but was drilled as he came down.  The referee checked on Cody, teasing he may not be able to continue as Aldis rolled back into the ring.

DDP ran down to check on Cody.  Daivari came out with a towel and shoved Page down, then argued with the referee.  DDP hit the ring and hit the Diamond Cutter.     Page went back to checking on Cody.  Hebner sent DDP to the back.  When Rhodes came up, he was bleeding.  That led to Aldis focusing on the cut.  Cody fought back and nailed a nice powerslam for a two count.  He went for a moonsault but missed.  Aldis draped him on the top and then tossed him off with a suplex.  Cody came back and locked on a figure four leglock but Aldis was able to turn it over.

The battle returned to the floor, where Aldis nailed an over the shoulder powerslam on the floor.  They battled back to the ring, where Cody went for the Alabama Slam but dropped Aldis with his back hurting him from the attacks he had suffered.  He powered through and spun Aldis in circles before hitting the Alabama Slam.  Cody missed the Disaster Kick.  Aldis nailed a powerbomb and turned Cody over with a Texas Cloverleaf.   Cody was trapped in the center but powered his way out and made it to the ropes.

Aldis grabbed Cody and nailed a piledriver, then took his time ascending to the top rope.  Brandi covered Cody but Aldis came off the top and drilled her with an elbow.  The crowd turned on Aldis, chanting "a**hole."  They played up that perhaps Aldis didn't know she was there.  He slapped Cody, who came back with a disaster kick and CrossRhodes for a two count.  They battled over a backslide.  Cody went for a vertebreaker but Aldis landed on his feet.  They went back and forth until Aldis sent for a sunset flip.  Cody blocked and rolled forward with a pinfall combination, caught him and scored the pin.

Your winner and new NWA Champion, Cody!

The place went absolutely nuts for this but for some reason, the sounds was muted.  Brandi was crying and returned to the ring to embrace him.  Aldis laid there looking beaten.   Cody's fight team returned to the ring

The match was solid but came off way better and more important because of the big fight feet.  The crowd was absolutely thrilled with the title change, which was the right call on the right show.

They did a video showcasing the entire Adam “Hangman” Page murder of Joey Ryan storyline, then revealed it was Page’s dream with Nick Jackson waking him up to tell him it was time to go to the ring.  He grabbed Jackson and began strangling him.  He realized what he was doing and left for the ring.

Chicago Street Fight: Joey Janela (with Penelope Ford) vs. Hangman Page.

Page caught Janela with a big boot and an elbow, sending Janela to the floor.  Page nailed a big tope to the floor.  Janela hit one to the outside in return.  Janela played to the crowd but was nailed with a big running boot, sending him off the apron to the floor.

Page went to the top and hit a moonsault to the floor.   Page tossed him into the ring and brought a chair back to the ring with him.  Janela met him and nailed a series of forearms but was caught with a rolling elbow.  Janela was hit with a Fallaway slam, sending him into an open chair.  Ouch.

Page revealed there was a Cracker Barrell (as in an actual Barrell) sitting at ringside and ran Janela towards it, but he reversed the momentum and sent Page into it.   Janela charged across ringside and ran up a chair and the barrel into a flip into the crowd, taking out Page.

Janela rolled the barrel at Page, who leapt over it like Mario in Donkey King.  They battled on the floor with Page wiping out Janela with a flip into a lariat.

Page looked under the ring and pulled a table out from underneath.   He tossed Janela in the ring and set up the table at ringside.   Janela fought back and pulled out a ladder and placed it atop the barrel, bridging it from the ring apron.   Janela went to the top but was pulled off and hit with a Burning Hammer off the apron onto the ladder, which didn’t give at all and crashed down atop of them as they fell off to the floor.  It was brutal.

Page pulled a trash bag out from under the ring.  The idea was he was going to suffocate him.  Penelope Ford got into Page’s face and did all her big spots, standing up to Page.  She Matrixed out of a clothesline and hit a big dive on him.  She punched Page, who landed on the table and seconds later, Janela came off with an INSANE flying elbow that decimated Page and the table.

They battled to the stage.  Janela did the Muta running clothesline spot on the stage.  Janela set up another table in front of entrance steps.   He and Ford then placed another table next to it.  He went to grab Page, who overpowered him and hit a running powerbomb over the stairs down to the tables….well, the first table as Janela landed WAY short.  It looked even worse on the replay, if that is even possible.

Page dragged Janela back to the ring.   Page hit the Buckshot lariat and the Rite of Passage but Penelope Ford broke up the pinfall.  She had the trash bag but when he grabbed it, out came the “cursed boots” as seen on Being the Elite (too long to explain now) Page freaked out and superkicked her in the face.  Janela attacked him with a superkick of his own for a two count.

Janela has a nasty red welt on his side from the bump off the stage.  He set up a ladder in the ring.  He went to the top but Page pulled the phone he “murdered” Joey Ryan with and began (long story) and beat Janela in the head with it, wrapped the cord around his throat and hit the Rite of Passage off the ladder through the table.

Your winner, Adam Page!

Well, that was something!   Some rough patches here, but some insane bumps and really hard hitting action.

They showed a video of the "murdered' Ryan laying in the bed where he was killed and well, his penis rose up.

A assembly of penises then walked out - yes, a group of men dressed as penises, came out on stage....leading to the resurrection of Joey Ryan.  Ryan came to the ring, followed by the penises and confronted Page.  Page was grabbed by his penis and flipped over and laid out.  He was then carried out by the penis army.  What the F*** am I supposed to say about this?  I have no idea what the hell I just watched.

Backstage, ROH Champion Jay Lethal made his way to the ring.  Someone handed him a pair of Macho Man style sunglasses.  They then slapped him in the face and Jay turned into Black Machismo.

ROH Champion Jay Lethal vs. Flip Gordon (with Brandi Rhodes)

Lethal came out to Randy Savage's music and was full blown Black Machismo, accompanied by Lanny Poffo.

Lethal is doing complete Savage, including treating Brandi as if she was Elizabeth.   He and Gordon went back and forth until Lethal clotheslined him over the top to the floor.  He went for a double axe handle but Brandi got in the way.  Lethal chased her into the ring and she tried to explain she wasn’t Elizabeth, but he placed her on his shoulder (think the end of Wrestlemania IV) but she slapped him.

Gordon returned to the ring and took control with some of his offensive moves.  He chopped Lethal and used his aerial ability and unique balance to stay one step ahead of Lethal.  He nailed a series of topes to the outside on Lethal.  Gordon nailed a moonsault for a two count.   Gordon scored several near falls but was caught with a pump kick.  Gordon came back with a standing moonsault for a two count.  They battled back and forth on the apron.  Lethal ran him into the buckles and went to the top but had his legs taken out from under him.

Gordon came off the top but Lethal moved and nailed the Lethal combination for a two count.   Gordon nailed a Falcon Arrow for a two count.     Gordon came off the top but was caught in a Torture Rack and slammed down.  Lanny Poffo got on the apron and they said he was trying to draw the Madness out of Lethal.  Uh....OK.  He slapped Lethal with a chop and Jay was back to wrestling like Macho again.  He nailed the flying elbowsmash, then returned to the top for another.

Lethal connected but Flip Gordon Hulked Up and now we were down a Hogan vs. Savage Wrestlemania V reproduction.  Gordon nailed a Pele Kick.  He hit a star spangled Slingblade and ascended to the top rope.  He hit a running shooting star press and a twisting splash off the ropes for a close, close, close two count.   Gordon went to the top for for a move.  They battled and Lethal hit a cutter off the ropes, then the Lethal Injection for the pin.

Your winner and still ROH Champion, Jay Lethal!

Well, that was something.  Far more silliness and shenanigans than you would expect on paper, but on a show that was meant to be twisted and wacky and fun, it was par for the course.  The wrestling was fine but the tributes to Hogan and Savage, etc. are all subjective as to whether you liked them or not.  This worked because it wasn't an "official" ROH show but it was probably the weirdest ROH title bout in history.

Bully Ray attacked both and laid them out.  Lenny Poffo tried to defend them but was kicked in the groin.  Bully pulled out a table.  Colt Cabana hit the ring and speared Bully, taking him down.  Lethal, Gordon and Cabana teamed to triple powerbomb Bully through a table.   The crowd chanted for Cabana.

IWGP Champion Kenny Omega vs. Pentagon Jr.

Omega's ring entrance made him look like a huge star.

The crowd chanted "Holy sh**" at the bell.

Kenny slapped Pentagon as he went for one himself.  Pentagon responded with a kick to the gut.  Omega went for a move but was dropkicked in the ribs.  Omega was trapped in the corner and beaten before being nailed with a lumblower.  Omega went to the floor and moved out of the way of a potential dive.  Omega was caught with a tope con hilo after being kicked back off the apron.   Omega and Penta battled on the floor with a series of chops.  Penta sent him into the barricades.  Penta charged but was kicked away.  Omega charged but was hit with a powerslam on the floor.

They returned to the ring where they chopped each other back and forth.  The story was that Omega's hamstring was hurt during the Penta dive and he couldn't put any weight on it.   Omega went for a moonsault but was kicked in the face as he came down.  Omega was sent into the ropes but nailed a tornado DDT.  Omega nailed a springboard dive to the outside.  He followed up with a missile dropkick off the top into the ring.  Omega drilled Penta's head across his knee.

Omega went for the V-Trigger but ate a superkick.  Omega escaped a suplex attempt and nailed a discus elbow, then a snap Dragon suplex.  He set up for the One-Winged Angel but Omega nailed a lungblower.  They battled back and forth.  Omega nailed a death valley driver for a two count.   Omega set up for the V-Trigger and nailed it across Penta's back.  Omega placed him on the top and went for a brainbuster but Penta grabbed and held on.   Penta nailed a superkick to the head and nailed a double stomp off the top.    They continued battled, then nailed the V-Trigger to the face.

Omega nailed another but Penta made it clear he had no fear and wasn't giving up.  Omega nailed a powerbomb and another V-Trigger but Penta grabbed the ropes.   Penta caught him with a kick to the gut and went for the package piledriver but Omega escaped.  Omega was nailed with a pumphandle slam but still kicked up at the last second.  They battled to the apron outside, where Penta nailed the package piledriver on the apron.  That's just wrong.  He rolled Omega back into the ring and nailed a double stomp but Omega got his shoulder up.  The crowd chanted "All In."

Omega came back with a V-Trigger and the One-Winged Angel but Penta escaped the Angel and snapped his arm backwards.  He nailed another package piledriver on Omega who kicked up at the very last second.   Penta went for a kick but Omega caught it, only to have his arm attacked.  Omega nailed the V-Trigger out of nowhere and hit the backwards rana for a two count.  Another V-Trigger and the One-Winged Angel for the pin.

Your winner, IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega!

Really damn good match.  Pentagon had his working boots on and Omega did everything the audience wants to see in a big Omega match.  Thoroughly entertaining all the way.

The lights went off and when they returned, Penta attacked Omega and destroyed him, only to reveal he was really Chris Jericho.  Jericho nailed a big Codebreaker on Omega and left him laying.  Jericho took the rinmg mic and called out Omega.  He said he'd see Omega on the Jericho Cruise.

Jericho left through the crowd and nailed Don Callis on the way out.

This would be, for the record, Jericho's first appearance outside of WWE in a wrestling ring in the United States since the day he debuted in August 1999.

Jericho's band Fozzy has a concert in Merriam, Kansas tonight, so I would assume he is rushing off to Kansas as I type this.
