BRISCOES VS. BUCKS VS. ADDICTION, FLIP VS. ALDIS FOR NWA TITLE, MARTINEZ VS. SKY & MORE: COMPLETE ROH HONOR FOR ALL COVERAGE FROM NASHVILLE, TN

By Mike Johnson on 2018-07-20 20:15:00

NWA Champion Nick Aldis vs. Flip Gordon.

Cody joined the announcers, which was a great way to preview him challenging for the NWA title at "All In."  He did a great job putting over the NWA title and talking about what it meant to his father.

They did big championship announcements.

Flip had his shoulder taped

The early portion was a feeling out process.  Aldis played the strong champion who kept the younger challenger grounded.   He focused on the knee.  Gordon superkicked Aldis to the outside and hit a dive to the floor. He brought Aldis back in and scored a two count.   Gordon was cut off but hit a springboard tackle for another two count.  He cinched in a crossface.  Aldis made it to the ropes but was nailed with a Pele Kick.  Gordon began unloaded with some nice offensive moves but took too long to capitalize due to injuries.

Gordon missed a kick but caught the follow up.  He went for the top rope 450 but Aldis got his knee up.  Aldis nailed the piledriver.  He went to the top and dropped a nice elbow off the top for the pin, although Gordon had his foot on the rope.

Your winner and still NWA Champion, Nick Aldis!

Cody came to ringside to explain to the referees that the foot was on the rope.  The idea was that Gordon's performance had gotten Cody's respect.  The referees ruled that the match had to be re-started.  Aldis, who had already walked oiut, returned upset.  Gordon hit a flip dive to the outside.  He hit a kick and the star spangled stunner but Aldis kicked out at the last second.  That was a great moment.

Aldis went after the knee and Gordon did a really nice job of selling it.  Aldis nailed a powerbomb and then a second, but Gordon got his shoulder up at the last second.  Aldis locked on the Texas Cloverleaf.  Gordon was great as the babyface trying to fight his way out and the crowd got into every second of this, but Gordon finally passed out.  The referee called for the belt.

Again, Your winner and still NWA Champion, Nick Aldis!

This was really good in terms of how it was set up and executed.  Aldis was the old school traditional wrestling champ.  Flip was the up and comer with all the flashy moves who showed a good fight.  Cody played his role really well and all the action after the restart was perfect. The crowd was super into everything here.

Cody hit the ring after and helped Gordon up, so the idea was Gordon earned his respect.  Aldis offered Gordon his hand and shook it.  The crowd chanted "All In."  Codt raised Gordon's arm and then left him in the ring.  The crowd gave Flip a big ovation for his work.   Gordon saluted the crowd but was attacked by Bully Ray, who low blowed him.  Bully ripped him apart verbally, telling him he can keep trying to get booked on "All In" but don't forget about Bully.

Bully then went after the announcers.  He asked Ian where Cabana was and called Caprice a nobody.  He ran off the announcers and then walked off.

Main event time!

ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes vs. IWGP Tag Team Champions The Young Buck vs. The Addiction - Non-title.

Kazarian and Nick Jackson had some really good back and forth action.  The Briscoes hit the ring and rolled through both.  Matt elevated Nick into a dropkick on them.  They did their Young Buck double-team maneuvers.

The Briscoes cut off Kazarian and worked him over in the corner.  The forefathers of ROH tagged in and out, working him over.  The Bucks finally tagged in and took over the flow of the match.  The Bucks locked the Briscoes into double Sharpshooters, but the Addiction attacked.  The Bucks began unleashing superkicks.

The Bucks nailed suicide dives.  They worked over Mark Briscoe and teased a Meltzer Driver, but Daniels got involved.  Daniels nailed Mark and caught him with a STO.  Nick Jackson locked on a Sharpshooter, but Jay Briscoe broke it up.

All sorts of chaos reigned with lots of big spots.  Daniels hit the Best Moonsault Ever on Jay, but Nick scored with a superkick.  The crowd chanted, “This is awesome.”  Jay nailed a bullydriver on Daniels.   Briscoes came back to destroy Daniels with a series of moves but everyone dove on to break up the pinfall.  They are all working their rear ends off.

They went into a fun dive sequence with Nick Jackson hitting a twisting moonsault to the floor on everyone.  The Bucks hit the Meltzer Driver and pinned Mark Briscoe for the pin.

Your winners, The Young Bucks!

All testosterone infused physical and aerial madness.  Just a ridiculous amount of work ethic here.  Great stuff.

That’s all from ROH tonight.  I will return Sunday with Slammiversary coverage!
