WHAT HAPPENED AFTER WRESTLEMANIA WENT OFF THE AIR: MIKE JOHNSON'S LIVE WRESTLEMANIA 34 BLOG FROM INSIDE THE MERCEDES-BENZ SUPERDOME

By Mike Johnson on 2018-04-09 11:57:00

Welcome to my live, ongoing WWE Wrestlemania 34 blog!  We are live inside the Mercedez-Benz Stadium and I’ll be live blogging the entire event all night.

They just turned on all the lights in the venue, spotlights darting in circles.  The crowd popped and chanted for Rusev Day,

Huge pop for Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler in the Dome.  Byron Saxton, no so much!

The first match was the Andre the Giant Battle Royal.   The fans were not thrilled about Aiden English being the first out!  The crowd loved the R-Truth-Goldust interaction.    Over the course of the match, live, you could hear pockets of "Delete" chants and they got louder over the course of the bout.   Man, the Mojo mauling of Zack Ryder was just evil.    Everyone started overboard as if they were on the Titanic.  Corbin and Kane faced off, but before they could go at it, everyone else still in the match jumped them.   The crowd was really into the Goldust offense and I loved the polka dot tribute to his father.  It came down to two previous winners in Baron Corbin and Mojo Rawley as well as Matt Hardy.  The crowd was super into Hardy.  They were working over Matt when Bray Wyatt magically appeared, but instead of assisting them, he attacked Mojo and eliminated him.  Corbin wiped out Wyatt but was tossed by Matt.  So, Matt is your winner.

Matt and Bray looked at each other.  Hardy applauded him and they hugged.  I guess the Lake of Reincarnation did Bray some good!

Easily the best Andre Battle Royal to date.

They keep showing John Cena in the crowd.  When he pops up on the screen, he's getting booed.  I guess we will be getting Undertaker's response tonight.

Next up is the Cruiserweight Tournament final.  Nice new outfit for Mustafa Ali.  I always liked when guys would show up with new gear for Wrestlemania, like it was a special Christmas morning surprise.  Cool to see Ali do that and upgrade to the next level, so to speak.

This is technically the Wrestlemania debut for Nigel McGuinness as well, by the way.  So happy for him.

Really good back and forth match with a great dive from Cedric early on.   Alexander worked over Ali’s back and he did an excellent job selling it.  The Spanish Fly off the top looked great as well.    Ali went to the top but was knocked off.

Alexander went for the Lumbar Check, but Ali turned it into a reverse rana.  He nailed an awesome 450 splash off the top, but Cedric made it to the ropes at the last second.

It was quickly becoming gut check time as they delivered big bombs back and forth. Alexander finally nailed several back elbows and the Lumbar Check and scored the pin

Cedric has come a long way from setting up the rings for Highspots.com.  Great to be here to see this personally.  He has earned it.

They are having a lot of wifi issues in the building.  Good thing I have my hotspot.

It’s time for the Wrestlemania Women’s Battle Royal.  Paige is doing commentary as well as Beth Phoenix.  Great to see WWE find a way to get her on the show as obviously, she can’t compete.

Big pop for Becky Lynch.  Pretty cool she got her own entrance.  She has yet to be used anywhere close to her level of popularity.  The lines for her when I visited AXXESS the other day were long as hell.

A few NXT talents in the bout, including Dakota Kai, Taynara, Bianca Belair and others.

They gave Bayley her own entrance, then gave Sasha one.  In New Orleans, Banks was seen as the heel, as there were a lot of boos for her.

Carmella was out early.  Did they just tip their hand to a cash in for the Money in the Bank briefcase?

The NXT girls soon attacked the main roster stars and led an NXT chant.

Man, the pop when it came down to Bayley and Sasha was MASSIVE.  When Bayley tossed her, the place went nuts, only to go into a hush when they realized Naomi was still in the match.  Great twist, really great stuff.  Naomi nailed the Rear View and dumped Bayley and the place erupted for her celebration.  The ladies delivered here for sure.
