ZACK SABRE JR. VS. HIROSHI TANAHASHI & MORE: NEW JAPAN DESTRUCTION IN HIROSHIMA COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-09-16 05:06:00

Good morning, everyone!

Welcome to PWInsider.com's live, ongoing coverage of New Japan Pro Wrestling's Destruction in Hiroshima.

Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask IV vs. Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI & Jado

Liger and Jado started out.  Jado wanted a handshake but Liger blew it off.    Jado finally got his handshake and hugged Liger, then tried to kick him but Liger caught him.  Liger cleaned house and set up for a dive but Jado grabbed his leg and tripped him.  Jado worked him over with shots and kicks in the corner.   YOSHI-HASHI tagged in.  Liger tried to fight his way out of the corner but was drilled across the back.  He was hung up on the ropes and nailed with a big dropkick to his exposed back as he was hanging upside down.  Crowd was very into Liger early.

Goto tagged in and continued the assault but was nailed and stunned while going to the top.  Liger caught him with a superplex, then crawled to make the tag to Tenzan.   Tenzan nailed a series of Mongolian Chops on Goto, whipped him hard into the corner and scored a two count with a suplex.   Goto and Tenzan battled back and forth with forearms and punches.  Goto went for a move but Tenzan slipped out.  Goto caught him with a kick, then a lariat.  The crowd rallied Tenzan as HASHI was tagged in and followed up with another big lariat in the corner.

Tiger Mask tagged in and hit a cross body off the top.  He caught HASHI with a crucifix but Goto broke up the pinfall attempt.  Everyone began brawling on the floor.  Mask nailed a sit-down powerbomb on HASHI for a two count.  HASHI catches Tiger with a lariat, then cinches him in a butterfly lock, scoring the submission.

Your winners, Jado & YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto!

Just a typical opener.  Nothing wrong with the match, but nothing memorable either.

Juice Robinson & David Finlay vs Bad Luck Fale & Leo Tonga

Finlay and Robinson nailed a double dropick on Fale and knocked him to the floor before the bell.  The story is that they were trying to overwhelm the rookie Tonga early on.  That didn't work out for Robinson, who was snapped down in a Samoan Drop.  He rolled to the floor but that didn't provide any security blanket as Tonga whipped him hard into the railing.  He was almost counted out but returned around the 16 count.

Tonga picked up Robinson and slammed him for a two count.   Fale tagged in and slammed Robinson, then sits on his chest for a two count.   Tonga held up Robinson for a delayed vertical suplex for a two count.  He whipped Robinson into the corner but missed a charge.  Robinson nailed several strikes and a dropkick but was caught with a knee to the kidneys as he rebounded off the ropes.

Finlay entered the fray to assist his partner against Tonga, then hit a slingshot pescado for a two count.   They went to overwhelm Tonga but he grabbed them for a double chokeslam.  They fought him off. Robinson nailed Pulp Friction and scored the pin.

Your winners, Juice Robinson & David Finlay!

OK match.  You can see Tonga is going to be a massive star when he develops.  Robinson has put in the work and has evolved into a hell of a hand.   Given that he's challenging Kenny Omega for the IWGP United States championship in Kobe, it made sense to spotlight him here.

Beretta & Rocky Romero vs Chase Owens & Yujiro Takahashi.

This will be Roppongi Vice's final time as a team as Beretta is moving on to the Heavyweight division.

It was all Yujiro and Owens early on as they double-teamed Beretta.   Beretta was whipped hard into the corner, which sent him upside down.  Owens nailed him with a slingshot DDT for a two count.  He tied up Beretta's arms for a straitjacket but was fought off and hit with a tornado DDT out of the corner.  Romero and Yujiro tagged in and they battled back and forth with Romero getting the better of the exchange.  Romero hit a series of lariats in the corner before the Bullet Club members teamed to take him down.

RPG Vice made a comeback with a series of double team moves.  Beretta went for Strong Zero on Yujiro but Owens slipped in and caught him with a superkick.  Bullet Club nailed a double team neckbreaker for a two count but Romero dove into the ring to break it up at a two count.  Owens stalked Beretta and nailed a nice looking neckbreaker for a two count.

On the floor, Romero whipped Yujiro into the barricade.  Owens went for a package piledriver but Beretta blocked it.  Owens drilled him across the back but was nailed as he rebounded.  Romero and Owens nailed a double-team Strong Zero and pinned Owens

Your winners, Roppongi Vice!

Solid match. Yujiro challenged Beretta to a singles bout down the line.  RPG Vice embraced to go out winners together.

Togi Makabe, Michael Elgin & Kota Ibushi vs Minoru Suzuki, Takashi Iizuka & TAKA Michinoku

Everyone brawled at the bell and they fought all over ringside.  Suzuki choked Elgin with a wire.  Iizuka worked over Makabe with a chair.   Michinoku worked over Ibushi, then sent him into a Suzuki kick.  They even menaced Kevin Kelly, who deserved it for his crimes against humanity.   Suzuki worked over Ibushi in the ring, nailing a series of strikes.  Ibushi tried to fight back but was badly overwhelmed.  They showcased how savage Suzuki-Gun.

Ibushi was beaten down in the corner and whipped hard into the corner, where TAKA drilled him with a hard high knee.  Ibushi nailed a dropkick out of desperation and tagged Makabe, who met Suzuki in the center of the ring.  Makabe nailed a big clothesline and worked him over with punches in the corner.   Makabe went for a throw but was caught in a front facelock.  Makabe finally caught him with a Northern Lights suplex for a two count.  Suzuki cut him off with a leaping kick in the corner.

Makabe and Suzuki battled center ring until Suzuki was caught with a lariat.  Ibushi tagged in and nailed a series of strikes, only to be grabbed by Iizuka as he rebounded.  That allowed Suzuki to nail Ibushi.  Suzuki distracted the referee, allowing Iizuka to choke Ibushi with a rope.  He went for a foreign object shot but Elgin nailed him.  Ibushi was able to drill Iizuka and scored the pin.

Your winners, Togi Makabe, Michael Elgin & Kota Ibushi!

Suzuki looked strong here with some good offense and they showed how savage Suzuki-Gun were until Ibushi scored the surprise win.  The big surprise was how little Elgin was in the ring.
