The Miz makes his way to the ring with Maryse.

We see what happened over the last few weeks to set up tonight's Intercontinental Title Match between Miz and Dean Ambrose.

Miz says you are looking at the 'IT' couple.  The ratings spike.  The most must see WWE Superstar of all time married to the hottest woman on the planet and the holder of the most prestigious title in the WWE.  Miz says he has one New Year's Resolution and that is to be more forgiving.  Miz says it just so happens that there is someone who owes him an apology and that person knows who SHE is.  If she would kindly come out and grace us with her presence so she can apologize.

Miz looks up the ramp and SHE does not come out.

Miz says that Smackdown will not continue until he gets his apology.  Miz says it is not on him, it is on you . . . RENEE YOUNG.  it was on you two weeks ago when you unethically slapped him in the face during his interview.  Just like last week when Dean Ambrose attacked him.  You set him up.  You let your personal feelings get in the way of professional obligations.  Now, poof, Dean Ambrose has an Intercontinental Title.  It must be good to be on the side of the general manager and co-host on Talking Smack.

The crowd chants for Miz' opponent tonight and Miz says he wants an apology.  How can Renee Young sleep at night knowing that she has sacrificed her journalistic integrity for Dirty Deeds with Dean Ambrose.

Dean Ambrose's music plays and Dean makes his way to the ring.

Miz goes to the apron and Maryse stands in the center of the ring and blocks Ambrose's path.  Maryse slaps Dean in the face.

We are back and Carmella is stretching and James Ellsworth stops by.  He thanks her for the kind words last week as he stumbles over his words as he wishes her luck in her match tonight.  James gives Carmella the shirt off his back.

Carmella thanks James and she sounds almost genuine.  She tells James that he should be at ringside with her.

James forgets proper sentence structure as they walk away.

We are back and the official contract signing carpet is in the ring so that means we need the Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan to officiate the contract signing between John Cena and AJ Styles.

Daniel brings out the challenger John Cena out first.

Out next is the WWE Champion AJ Styles.

John sits at the table while AJ continues to stand.

AJ wants to know why are they doing this.  They go back over a dozen years.  They competed in the small towns in high school gyms in front of nobody because we loved what we did.  John Cena is not like them.  He is off television for four months and he gets a title match against him?  How does this work?

Daniel says he understands where AJ is coming from but Daniel wants AJ to know where he is coming from.  Last week, they beat Raw for the first time.  It was because AJ was in the main event and John returned to Smackdown.  They need the momentum going into the Royal Rumble with the match that everyone is talking about AJ Styles versus John Cena.

Daniels says this is the match that everyone wants and this is the match that they are going to give the people.  Daniel reminds AJ that he beat John three times already.  He wishes them luck and leaves the ring.

AJ says that John is the luckiest man on the planet.  You were gifted a title match by the man who is basically your brother-in-law.  This is the best for Smackdown and for AJ Styles.  My .  . look how the tables have turned.  It was last year when you had this title, you told him he needed a win so he would be more than an indie guy.  AJ tells John if he doesn't win, he does not belong in the WWE.  AJ reminds John that he beat him three times.  No one saw you because you weren't here and Smackdown beat Raw because he is the champion, not John Cena.

AJ tells John that they can do it without you.

John says he has a lot of respect for AJ . . .

AJ tells John to stop with the talk about respect because you are covering yourself.  You admited that what you said about The Rock was not the truth.  AJ says that what John said about the Rock is true about Cena.  AJ says John Cena has been great for the WWE for a long time.  AJ points out the words 'has been'.  AJ tells John to look at him.  He says that when it comes to Hollywood, John will never be as good as the Rock.  When it comes to the ring, you will never be as good as AJ Styles.

AJ signs the contract.

Cena says being a man is being humble when you are wrong and being able to apologize.  A big part of being a man is when you are pushed by someone, you push back.  He says that AJ made the biggest mistake of his life.  He pissed off John Cena.  You are right.  He says he needs a win to prove he does belong because of chumps like you who think he has already left.  Cena says he is pushing back and he says he lost all respect for AJ Styles and he calls him a punk ass bitch.  You know why everybody is talking about John Cena versus AJ Styles is because the people who dislike him think that AJ is the man to replace him.  John says that he has a career of shutting up people to yap their mouths and he makes them eat their words.  You finally got the courage to bow up and face John Cena.  He will make Styles look as dumb as he looks.

John talks about passion.  He says AJ goes where they tell him to go and John is told to stop.  You walk down the ramp because you have to.  Cena says he walks down that ramp because he wants to.  Cena says that others would have left if they had his opportunities in Hollywood, but he is still here and that is passion.  You signed the contract and it is one signature away from being official.  John says that AJ needs this match, he needs this match, and the people need this match.  You are just like everyone who says that Cena sucks and tries to knock him off.  They do their best, but on their best day, they could never be him.

He tells AJ to bring his family, his friends, bring the noise, bring your A Game, and he is still going to kicks AJ's ass and win that championship.  Why?  He is John Cena . . . recognize.

Baron Corbin comes out and he says on his first day in the WWE he won the Andre the Giant Battle Royal so he is going to be the first Smackdown superstar to enter the Royal Rumble.  He says he will be winning the match.  He says he does not care if it is you or you, he is leaving Wrestlemania the WWE Champion.

John says he is glad Baron is out here because he knows that AJ won't fight him but he knows the biggest guy in the room will fight him.

Styles drop kicks Cena after Cena knocks over the contract signing table.

Styles leaves the ring and Corbin stands over Cena and says that maybe your time is up.

Maryse is walking in the back and she sees Renee Young.

Maryse tells Renee on behalf of her husband . . . and she slaps Renee.  She says that Renee deserved that and she tells Renee never to touch her husband.
