COMPLETE WWE BATTLEGROUND 2016 COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-07-24 19:00:00

WWE Intercontinental champion The Miz with Maryse vs. Darren Young with Bob Backlund.

Miz was wary of Young early on.    Miz cut off Young and controlled him as he trashtalked Backlund.  Young tried to fire back and escaped but was caught.  Miz went for a neckbreaker but Young tried to turn it into a bridge.  They battled back and forth until Young scored a two count with a backslide.  Miz cut him off again with a kick to the face.  Miz began stomping him in the corner.

Young made a comeback and slammed Miz on the apron outside.  Backlund told him to go for the Crossface Chicken Wing but when he did, Miz advanced and smashed his face into the ropes.  Miz tried to walk out but Backlund blocked him and backed Miz back into the ring.  Young pulled him back in.  Maryse slapped Backlund, who lost it.  Miz approached Backlund and shoved him down.  Young lost it and put the Chickenwing on Miz (really, a Cobra Clutch) on the floor.

They rang the bell.  Just a lame finish.

No winner.  Miz still champ.  Weakest thing on show thus far.

John Cena & Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady vs. AJ Styles & Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson

Enzo and Cass did a lot of mic work before the bout.  It was great.

Styles and Amore started off.  They got the crowd chanting "soccer mom" at AJ Styles.   Styles caught him with a big dropkick early.   Cass launched Enzo over the Gallows and Anderson on the floor.  Styles tried to attack Cass but ended up being sent over the top onto everyone.  They cut off Enzo and the Club took turns tagging in and out working him over.

They worked over Enzo for a long time.  Amore looked as if he was finally going to break free and tag out but Anderson came out of nowhere with a big knee for a two count.  Gallows missed a splash and tagged AJ, but Enzo tagged Cena first.  Cena unloaded on Styles and nailed the Five Knuckle Shuffle.  Cena went for the AA but Styles landed on his feet and nailed the Pele Kick on Cena.    Styles drilled Enzo to prevent Cema from tagging out.  The crowd went back and forth with dueling chants for them immediately.

Gallows got involved.  Enzo came off the top but Gallows moved and he nailed Cena with a bodypress.  Cena rolled through and tossed him at Gallows, who tossed Enzo aside.  Styles came off the top with a forearm but Cena moved and AJ nailed Styles.  Cena nailed the AA.  They went to the floor where Cena was slammed down on one of the announcing tables and everyone wiped everyone out.  Cena barely made the count back to the ring.

Styles grabbed Cena and nailed the Styles Clash but Cena was saved by Big Cass.  Anderson and Gallows attacked Cass and nailed him with the Magic Killer.  Enzo returned to the ring and faced off with them both.  He sidestepped a charging Anderson, sending him into the ringpost shoulder-first.  Enzo faced off with Gallows and was quickly kicked in the face.  The crowd was really into Enzo facing off with the Club.

Cena returned to the ring but avoided a Gallows charge. AJ went to the top but was crotched.  Cena clotheslined Gallows over the top to the floor.  Cena grabbed Styles and attempted an AA off the ropes but AJ let loose with the elbows.  Cena rebounded and caught him with the AA off the top and pinned Styles.

Your winners, John Cena & Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady!

A fun match with some good wrestling and the crowd really enjoying the antics of Enzo and Cass.  The Club all looked really good here.
