IS HHH THE NEW ERIC BISCHOFF? THOUGHTS ON THE TNA-AJ SITUATION, WHY SOMETIMES IT PAYS TO BE PATIENT AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2016-01-29 10:00:33
I know you wrote a long, detailed piece about the AJ Styles-TNA issue last week, but one thing you didn't explain was your own thoughts on the situation. I figured this was the best place to ask for them.

I've gone into this in Elite audio on the site but not in writing.  My personal feeling is that if TNA truly feels they had Styles, etc. locked into a deal, they should have filed a lawsuit or an injunction.  To try and prosecute Styles in the court of public opinion was always going to backfire on the promotion, because there is such a strong anti-TNA sentiment online and that isn't going to change until the promotion has YEARS of a tremendous product under their belt.  I know that part of the reason TNA was so adamant about getting their side out was because they had come close to signing Styles several times over the last few years only to have him instead change his mind and pull out of deals at the last minute, but again, even putting their side out on their official website, it came off more like a former jilted lover.  I don't see what the end game for any of it was unless they wanted to warn Styles they were going to sue.  If that's the case, they need to sue and let the courts sort it out.  If not, unfortunately for TNA, they gained nothing from any of this. If they felt they needed to get it out there and off their chest, well, it's out there, but I don't see that they gained anything positive from it. Again, just my opinion.

Could it have been possible that AJ Styles would have gone to WWE but the Bullet Club still would have gone to TNA?

The promotion was bringing in Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows as part of a package deal with Styles and at Styles' request.  It would never have been a case of them bringing in the team without Styles.  All three were going as a package agreement.

Why isn't WWE letting AJ Styles use the Styles Clash?

They are. You just had to be patient. See last night's Smackdown. WWE is just starting to educate their audience about Styles, so they aren't going to give everything away in the first appearances.

Quick Question and maybe its 2+2=5, is Grado going to WWE. I only ask because he got fired from TNA, he lost the ICW title and shook hands and was put over by the heel so he could get a standing ovation from the audience at the most recent ICW show, isn't advertised for their newest shows. Or has he signed an exclusive deal with TNA and they ar using the feast or fired for a story?

I'm not sure where he stands with ICW, but my guess is that Grado is not WWE bound. I expect we'll see something with him on the TNA UK tour, perhaps under a mask, to continue his story.

Do you see HHH as the new Bischoff signing all these free agents and putting them to work, instead of developing new talents ?

Wow, that is an interesting comparison. You could certainly create a list of similarities, since they each signed talents who cut their teeth elsewhere to improve their own companies. I think HHH has done far more to create and nurture younger talents than Bischoff ever did. WCW did create talents but I think HHH and his team have done more to create talents who started in the developmental system vs. what WCW created in the Power Plant. I think Eric was more reliant on using talents created elsewhere while HHH is signing similar talents to help build the talents that are being developed in-house, sort of a modern day version of using veterans to help get rookies over.
