CHARLIE HAAS, ACH, RAYMOND ROWE, JOEY RYAN & MORE: 9/4 VIP WRESTLING IN ARLINGTON, TEXAS LIVE REPORT

By Dylan Solis on 2015-09-07 08:30:00

VIP Wrestling "Setting the Bar 2" Report:
Arlington, TX

I went to this show on Friday night 9/4 and heard it mentioned on the "NXT and Beyond" audio in PWInsiderElite.com so I thought I'd send the report.   I thought the overall in ring product was really good. The show had about maybe 500 people, which was good for this growing independent who has only ran about 6-7 shows.

Matt Sydal no showed due to travel issues, but they announced that he would make up the date some other time. Teddy Hart was also in attendance with his cat, just to observe and watch the show. Notable names at meet and greet were Joey Ryan and Raymond Rowe.

Pre show:

1. Bolt Brady won a 20 man, $5000 battle royal in about 10 minutes, nothing spectacular, just to get the crowd hot. After the match, Jerome Daniels informed Bolt that he sponsored the battle royal and that he would have be his assistant to get the money. When Bolt refused, Jerome attacked him, and Moonshine Mantell made the save leading to:

2. Moonshine Mantell def. Jerome Daniels in about 10 minutes with a Gory Bomb. Not a bad match, Moonshine looked really good and he has a lot of potential.

This marked the beginning of the actual show.

3. The Vet Club (Tim Storm, Scott McKenzie, APOC and Randy Wayne) def. Gregory James, Jason Silver, Orion Taylor and Kenny Steele in a Survivor Series elimination match in about 16 minutes after legendary Texas referee Rick Manning turned heel and cost the Babyfaces the match. Rick feigned being sick and when James and Silver went for a cover, Manning started violently coughing. They went to check on him but Manning gave them a double DDT, and the heels took advantage.

4. Bree Ann def. Claudia in about 11 minutes in a No DQ match. This was by far the worst thing on the show, and Claudia was honestly pretty awful. It was billed as her last match ever, and she came out to New Jack's music and brought weapons for the No DQ gimmick, and the music played through out the entire match. They played a touching video after the match highlighting Claudia's career.

INTERMISSION

5. Joey Ryan def. Lou Sterrett in 12 minutes with the Super Kick. This was a good match. Lou is actually a good heel, but he almost killed himself attempting a Shooting Star Press, he landed pretty badly but was okay, and Joey moved out of the way, leading to the Super Kick for the win.

6. Ray Rowe and Masada went to a no contest with Shane Taylor and Keith Lee in about 15 minutes when the ref lost control. This was actually a fantastic match, with brawling in the crowd, big man spots, and just overall great in ring work. Keith Lee is a really good big man who is vastly underrated. Masada also did better than expected too, playing the Babyface in peril for a portion of the match. After the Babyfaces cleared the ring, Raymond Rowe took the mic and announced that at the next show on November 6th, he will be facing Brian Cage from Lucha Underground and PWG.

7. Jesse Sorenson def. Charlie Haas in 16 minutes. Charlie originally won with a rollup with his foot on the rope, but another referee came out and informed the original ref, so the match restarted and Jesse immediately won with a rollup. This was good, especially when Haas spit beer into Sign Guys face to get some heat.

8. AR Fox def. Davey Vega and Barrett Brown in a Triple Threat for the #1 Contenders for the VIP Title in 13 minutes. This was the match Matt Sydal was supposed to be in, but it was still good either way. It was mainly a spot fest, but still pretty awesome. AR Fox pinned Vega after the 450 Splash. It was not announced when Fox will get his title shot.

Action Jackson was awarded the Texas Icon award and he announced that we haven't seen the last of him in a wrestling ring.

9. Dirty Andy Dalton def. ACH in a Steel Cage match in about 20 minutes to retain the VIP Heavyweight Title. ACH did really great as the fiery babyface here, and Dalton did well as the old school heel. The finish came when the GM, JT LaMotta, came to ringside to help Dalton. The promoter, a guy named Keith, tried to calm down JT, but JT obliterated Keith with a steel chair. This allowed Dalton to take advantage due to all the commotion, and when ACH tried to fire back, Dalton hit 2 piledrivers for the win.

Overall I really liked this show and the atmosphere. The promotion tries to get a few big names every time, which also helps the credibility as well as gets the young talents over. The return date is Friday November 6th in Arlington, and the main event looks to be Raymond Rowe vs. Brian Cage. Tickets can be found at www.prowrestlingdallas.com
