BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING AT THE WEEK IN WRESTLING ON TELEVISION FROM WWE, TNA, AND ROH . . . INCLUDING SOMETHING THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE 2013

By Richard Trionfo on 2015-08-04 06:44:10
Even though Impact is nearing two hour totals that come close to their hourly average, we still saw an increase of 21 minutes from last week. This increase was thanks to Raw, NXT, and a surprising donor, Superstars.

Raw won the week with 58 minutes of wrestling, up 17 minutes from last week. Smackdown finished in second place one more time with 36 minutes of wrestling, down two minutes from last week. NXT jumped back into the top three with 25 minutes, up 9 minutes from last week. Ring of Honor finished in fourth place with 23 minutes of wrestling, down two minutes from last week.

Main Event stayed at 21 minutes, the same as last week, and the third straight week at 20 or more minutes to finish in fifth place. Impact fell down to sixth place with 15 minutes of wrestling, down 5 minutes from last week and half of the total from two weeks ago. Superstars increased by almost fifty percent despite finishing in last place one more time. The thirteen minutes of wrestling is up 4 minutes from last week.

The good totals for Raw and Smackdown have also increased the per match averages for the two shows. While both shows have been in the three and four minute range numerous times over the last few months, Raw has been over six minutes for the last five weeks and four of those were over seven and a half minutes. Smackdown has had three straight weeks over six minutes per match.

For the first time since September 19, 2013, Superstars had a ten minute match. That match saw Kofi Kingston face Drew McIntyre.

Raw became the first show to pass 2,000 matches since this column started in February 2010. Smackdown is in a distant second, 371 matches behind Raw while Impact is 625 matches behind Raw in third place. NXT is a few weeks away from getting into the thousand match club. Impact and Ring of Honor, by comparison, have combined for 1,950 matches.

Raw passed 10,300 minutes this week while Ring of Honor passed 4,500 minutes of wrestling. The WWE total amount of wrestling passed 31,000 this week.

Main Event was the 2000th hour of wrestling from the WWE during the course of this column.

Next week, I will have the totals for the month of July.
