BY THE NUMBERS: A LOOK BACK AT THE WEEK IN WRESTLING ON TELEVISION

By Richard Trionfo on 2015-07-28 06:19:04
The Road to 300 continues with another week of wrestling that saw a decline from last week, but this week’s decrease was less than the previous week. The seven shows saw a two minute decrease from last week. This drop occurred despite having more ten minute matches and one more match than last week. However, there were two one minute matches.

Raw won the week one more time, but the advantage over second place was only three minutes. Raw had 41 minutes of wrestling, down five minutes from last week and down fifteen minutes from two weeks ago. Over the last ten weeks, Raw has not been under forty minutes for more than two consecutive weeks so next week should see an increase. It did not appear that Raw would get close to forty minutes after the first half of the show, but with three matches all over ten minutes, we were able to get to the forty minute barrier.

Smackdown finished in second place with 38 minutes of wrestling, the second straight week with an increase over the previous week and the first time February that Smackdown had two consecutive weeks with thirty or more minutes of wrestling when Smackdown had six weeks in a row over thirty minutes, including a 45 minute week that is the highest total for the year.

Ring of Honor finished in third place with 25 minutes of wrestling, up 14 minutes from last week. Main Event finished in third place with 21 minutes of wrestling, up one minute from last week and the second week in a row that Main Event was over 20 minutes. That is something that Main Event has not done since April when it had four consecutive weeks in the 20 minute range.

Impact finished in fifth place with 20 minutes of wrestling, down 10 minutes from last week. This total was definitely affected by the presence of Hernandez on the show and the inability of TNA to show that footage due to his contractual situation with Lucha Underground. This is the lowest total for Impact since debuting on Destination America. This is also the worst finish for Impact since the move to Destination America.

NXT finished in sixth place with 16 minutes of wrestling, down six minutes from last week. Superstars is all alone in last place this week with 9 minutes of wrestling, down two minutes from last week. This was the second time in four weeks that Superstars was in single digits.

This week saw eight matches that were ten minutes or longer, but the longest match of the week was twelve minutes and came from Main Event. After a week without a one minute match, we did have two this week. This was also the second consecutive week that Raw had six matches and the second consecutive week with less than 30 matches.

Smackdown passed 8,100 minutes this week while Impact passed 7,800 minutes this week.

With three ten minute matches this week and one one minute match, the gap between ten and one minute matches for Raw is up to 50. That is the fifth best differential between ten and one minute matches. Ring of Honor has a +159 for the best differential. Main Event has a +104 differential. Impact has a +103 differential. Superstars, which has not had a one or ten minute match in 2015, has a +51 differential. The two shows under Raw are NXT with a +46 differential and Smackdown brings up the rear with a +26 differential.
