FULL, DETAILED DAY FOUR G1 CLIMAX REPORT

By Matthew Macklin on 2015-07-25 08:56:20

G1 Climax Day 4 Results:
Kagawa Prefecture, Takamatsu City Gymnasium (first stadium), July 25.

This was a fixed camera show with no commentary.

Doc Gallows, Tama Tonga & Cody Hall defeated Captain New Japan, Tiger Mask IV & Jushin Thunder Liger
This was better than you might expect.  Bullet Club attacked their opponents as they got into the ring and we were off.  Liger hit a top rope frankensteiner on Tonga, which is always incredible to see.  In the end Gallows pinned Captain with the Gallows Pole.  Gallows needed the win after two G1 loses so far and he got it.  Tomorrow he faces fellow Bullet Club member, Bad Luck Fale.

YOSHI-HASHI, Toru Yano & Gedo defeated David Finlay, Mascara Dorada & Hiroyoshi Tenzan
YOSHI-HASHI did it again.  This was okay, just your average six man tag.  Tenzan faces Yano tomorrow, so there was some silliness between them.  YOSHI-HASHI pinned Finlay after a Senton Bomb, so he now has two wins in a row.

Bad Luck Fale & AJ Styles defeated Jay White & Kota Ibushi
This was great.  Styles & Ibushi face tomorrow in a rematch from their match of the year contender at Invasion Attack, and they had lots of great echanges here.  Styles & White also did some great stuff, with Styles making White look really good.  White took it to Fale too, but was unable to get the big man off his feet.  Fale hit The Grenade to pin White.  A singles match between White & Styles would be great.

Ryusuke Taguchi, Katsuyori Shibata & Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Yohei Komatsu, Togi Makabe & Tetsuya Naito
Shibata faces Makabe tomorrow and Naito faces Tanahashi.  We didn’t get much between Shibata & Makabe, but we got some good stuff between Naito & Tanahashi, as those two always have great matches.  The finishing stretch of this between Komatsu & Taguchi was great with Komatsu almost pulling off an upset.  Komatsu kicked out of a Dodon across the knees, but Taguchi pinned him after another Dodon.

Block B Matches

Tomohiro Ishii defeated Yujiro Takahashi
This was a good match.  Ishii seems to be one of the only guys of getting a good match out of Takahashi.  It was dull while Yujiro was on offence for the first part of the match, but after that it got better with Ishii battling through everything Yujiro threw at him.  Ishii hit a nice buckle bomb.  Yujiro looked like he might have it with a low blow and roll up and then Tokyo Pimps.  Ishii hit a sliding D and a Brainbuster to get the win.

Satoshi Kojima defeated Michael Elgin
This was awesome.  Elgin is two for two with great G1 matches.  The match was extremely hard hitting, with Elgin overpowering Kojima for the first part.  The crowd goes nuts for every one of Elgin’s power spots.  There were several great near falls and counters towards the end.  Elgin attempted to powerbomb Kojima on the apron, but Kojima countered it into a DDT.  Elgin kicked out of a left arm lariat and hit one of his own when Kojima attempted a second.  Kojima scored the win when he caught Elgin with a lariat as Elgin came off the top rope.  This is well worth checking out.  After the match Elgin and Kojima shook hands.

Karl Anderson defeated Hirooki Goto
A second big win for Anderson in a row and somewhat of an upset beating the IC champion.  Goto & Anderson know each other extremely well and always have good chemistry.  This was a really good match, with lots of good back and forth wrestling.  Goto hit a nice Code Red from the top rope.  The finish came when Anderson beautifully countered Shouten Kai into a Gun Stun. The finish came out of nowhere and the reaction of the crowd to it was fantastic. There are few better at Anderson when it comes to creative match finishes. Anderson will likely now have an IC title shot in his future.  It’s great to see him getting wins.

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Yuji Nagata
This was just another fantastic match.  It was better than their IC title match in February.  Nakamura spent most of the match working over the ribs of Nagata after doing damage on the guardrail.  Nakamura went back to that time and time again. These two had counters for everything.  Nagata hit a nice exploder into the corner and countered a Boma Ye into a nice belly to belly.  He had the Nagata Lock in deep at one point and it took Nakamura a long time to escape.  The finishing sequence here was excellent with Nagata hitting a back drop, Nakamura then hit a sliding Boma Ye for a two.  He then hit a diving Boma Ye, but Nagata countered another one with a roundhouse kick, but Nakamura hit the ropes for another Boma Ye to get the win.  Great stuff.

Kazuchika Okada defeated Tomoaki Honma
This was the ultimate underdog match.  Honma was on the back foot for most of the match until he eventually got back into it.  As you’d expect, Honma made us all believe that he would pull off a miraculous upset.  He blocked a dropkick and hit his first Kokeshi and gave us what might be the greatest Rainmaker counter ever when he countered it into a Kokeshi.  Honma hit a couple of roll ups and a piledriver for convincing near fall.  Okada scored the win after a German suplex into The Rainmaker.  This was a really good main event.

The last four matches are all well worth checking out.  A really fun show overall.

Day 5 takes place tomorrow with the following card:
