SECOND, MORE DETAILED RING OF HONOR IN HOPKINS, MN LIVE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2015-07-12 09:20:18
Ring of Honor returned to the Hopkins Eisenhower Community Center for another show on 7/11, and while the crowd wasn't as big as the last time they were here, they gave the fans a few good matches as one incredible one.

The show actually started early with a tag team match between The Romantic Outlaws and Paco and Danny A. It was a short match, with the Romantic Outlaws throwing in a lot of comedy spots before going over. Decent little match to get the crowd to take their seats, but other than a few laughs, nothing special.

The show was then introduced by someone from the local Sinclair affiliate who was booed continuously as he tried to hype the channel's upcoming shows. He did a couple fo bits where he ripped off his shirt and threw it into the crowd, and the crowd threw it back. He was hustled out pretty quickly, and we had Steve Corino as ring announcer. He sat at ringside as well, but no Kevin Kelley to be seen...

First match was: MARK BRISCOE VS. DANNY DUGGAN

Really solid match, and Duggan was in a “Mr. Perfect” singlet and won over the crowd with some solid wrestling. Mark did what Mark does, and the clash of style made for an entertaining match. Mark Briscoe wins with a drop suplex.

Next up: SILAS YOUNG & BEER CITY BRUISER VS. WAR MACHINE

Silas did a great job of getting the crowd upset by mocking members of the crowd and War Machine for not being Real Men. I love his gimmick and wish he would have gotten more time to get everyone revved up. The match was OK, with War Machine overpowering and Silas coming back with heel tactics. Bruiser is fun to watch, and at one point, he pulled out a frog splash that a guy that tubby shouldn't be able to do. However, the match ended with War Machine getting the win via a brutal looking leg drop off the top rope onto the Beer City Bruiser.

Match 4:DALTON CASTLE VS. ACH

Crowd was REALLY into Dalton Castle, and the match had two gears. The first few minutes was a lot of comedy spots from Datlon, but as it went on, it became a very acrobatic match, and the crowd cheered for both guys. In the end, ACH won with a 450 splash off of the top rope.

Match 5 was MATT TAVEN VS. MICHAEL ELGIN

And this was NOT the match to put before the intermission. Both guys seemed to be off a step, and quite a few spots were sloppy or outright botched. They also seemed blown up about a third of the way into the match, prompting someone behind me to yell “I want to build a convenience store so you guys can get some gas!” Elgin won with a power bomb and then cut a promo about how he is going to the G1 tournament, and when he comes back, he's going after Lethal to reclaim his title.

Before the intermission, it was announced that Ring of Honor will be back on 11/14/2015. BE THERE!

Back from intermission: MICHAEL BENNETT W/MARIA KANELLIS VS. MOOSE VS. WILL FERRARA VS. CHEESEBURGER in a four corners match

Cheeseburger got a huge pop, but Moose, who came out last, got the biggest pop so far of the night. This crowd loves him. Bennett had a lot of great comedy heel bits, showing off his arrogance and outsmarting the others, but whenever Cheeseburger was in the ring, the crowd love it...and Moose entering the ring set out huge cheers each time. RoH has a massive star in the making with this guy. Lots of shenanigans and the match ended with Bennett getting a pile drive on Cheeseburger for the victory.

The next match was one the crowd was ready for: ADAM COLE VS. BOBBY FISH

They were both VERY over with the crowd, with dueling chants. Nice long match where Cole worked on Fish's leg through the entire match, and Fish fought back valiantly. Just a great wrestling match between two guys who know how to put together a solid, old school match. Cole wins with the shoulder breaker, but they set the match up so it easily could have gone either way.

Following up on how the last RoH show ended, we got UNDISPUTED ROH WORLD & WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPION JAY LETHAL & TRUTH MARTINI vs. JAY BRISCOE & ODB

Not much new here if you've ever seen an ODB revenge match, and the work by everyone was solid. I love Martini wrestling while wearing his sunglasses, I can't lie. Lethal and Briscoe did some solid work, and ODB pulled out all of her normal spots, winning the match by rolling up Martini. As DB is a hometown wrestler, the crowd ate I tup.

We come to the main event: “THE PHENOMENAL" AJ STYLES vs. “MR ROH" RODERICK STRONG vs. KYLE O'REILLY

This match was worth the price of admission all on it's own. A TON of innovative spots, lots of good hard action and they kept it so fast paced you didn't mind when someone was knocked out of the ring so two of the guys could go at it. Strong pinned O'Reilly with a spinning back breaker, and the crowd was surprised that AJ wasn't involved in the finish. Long ovation by the crowd and that was your show!
