6/21 NEW JAPAN IN SINGAPORE LIVE REPORT

By AJ Simmons on 2015-06-22 09:20:38
I happen to be in Singapore for work at the moment and on Sunday managed to make it to NJPW's "WrestleWorld 2015: Singapore" card. It was a short card, held as part of the Japanese pop culture convention going on. Here are the results!

Sho Tanaka over Yohei Komatsu in a 10 minute match. Some clever offense from these guys to get the crowd warmed up. Eventually Tanaka makes Komatsu tap.

Captain New Japan/Makabe/Goto over Nakamura/Taru Yano/Yoshi-Hashi in about 20 minutes. This match was great, lots of big spots and brawling. Nakamura threw Captain New Japan through one of the ringside security barriers at one point. Crowd was really into this and treated Nakamura like a rockstar.

Jushin Thunder Liger and Tanahashi over Okada and Gredo. Another great match that went about 20 minutes. Everyone in this match was treated as being big deals by the crowd here. Okada and Tanahashi were the work horses in the match, but Liger and Gedo still got their moments.

After the match, all the goods guys came out and thanked the crowd for coming out to pose for pictures with fans around the ringside area. They announced NJPW would be returning for some normal shows in the near future.

While short, the whole event was a lot of fun and seemed designed to get the local crowd interested in a larger NJPW show here. They seemed to have succeeded on that front, the merch line was busy leading up to the show and after. I swung by the table before I left the convention at the end of the night and they were sold out of most small through larges. Also, for such a short card I was surprised that NJPW had a full stage set up for the show. I'd chalk that up to promoting their brand here.
