6/10 LUCHA UNDERGROUND REPORT

By Nathan Favell on 2015-06-11 08:52:13

Original Air Date: 6/10/15

This is Nathan Favel and I'm back with more from Lucha Underground!  This week, we have the return of Drago, who has one chance to gain his spot back in the Temple.  In an equally momentous occasion, the legendary Blue Demon Jr. makes his return as well.  Let's get to the action!

Match #1:  Blue Demon Jr. vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. w/ The Crew - No Holds Barred Match

The idea here was that Demon was thrust into the match with his mortal enemy as he attempted to address the crowd while still in his suit. This was a brisk brawl that, while short, was as visceral a fight as you'll get from a fake sport. The Crew helped tear Demon apart about half-way through the match, which gave Chavo the chance to hit a frog-splash for the victory.

Winner:  Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Match #2:  Bengala, Mascarita Sagrada and Pimpinela Escarlata vs. The Disciples (Argenis, El Mariachi Loco & Ricky Mandel) w/ Catrina - Six-Man Tag Team Match

This was a short match that introduced the masked team "The Disciples", who seem to be booked as the "undead" servants of Mil Muertes (Ricky Banderas/El Mesias/Judas Mesias. The Disciples look like the Taco Bell tag team from 1990's WCW, but with a black and white color scheme for their attire.  I don't mean to be rude, but if the purpose was to present them as formidable, they most certainly did not look as such. As far as the match was concerned, the action was quick yet precise, with a plethora of fashionable transitions to keep the momentum going. Ultimately, The Disciples got the victory in their debut.

Winners:  The Disciples

Match #3:  Main Event - Drago vs Hernandez vs. Cage (Brian Cage) vs. King Cuerno - Fatal Four Way Match for a Lucha Underground World Heavyweight Title Shot, Drago's Mask and Employment

I think I broke my leg watching this damn match!  These four wrestlers took what is normally regarded as a death sentence for "Free TV" wrestling and made it into a fantastic main event.  In a bit of a surprise, it was the big men, in Hernandez and Cage, who took to the skies the most and who impressed me just as such.  There were quite a few risks taken in what I thought would be a reserved contest, including a spectacular dive by Cage onto anyone unfortunate enough to be in the way.  In the end, Drago secured the victory and gained back his spot on the roster, while keep his mask.

Winner:  Drago

News of the Night:

#1:  Chavo Guerrero Jr. taunted Black Lotus (Savannah) while she is still trapped in a cage, presumably in a dungeon.  I thought about calling this in to the police, but I didn't want to be seen as a jack-ass, like the guy who called in the "assault" James Storm made on Mickie James's life from TNA iMPACT last week. Do you get my crass comment about wrestling being fake and not to be taken literally?  I ask only so no one feels the need to call me in to the cops like some people want to do to Jerry Seinfeld for calling cell-phone users "gay french kings" in a stand-up routine sometime ago.  I guess everybody has forgotten that comedy is fake as well and is never meant to be taken seriously, just like wrestling!

#2:  Catrina (Maxine) tortured Dario Cueto with a chicken-wing (the wrestling hold) until he gave Mil Muertes (El Mesias) a Lucha Underground World Heavyweight Title shot.  If only CM Punk would have done this to Vince McMahon, then perhaps he would have gotten that Wrestlemania 30 main event with Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) like he wanted. Once again, did you sense the humor, or lack thereof, in that last sentence?

Final Verdict:

This was a fine edition of Lucha Underground that featured some excellent action that climaxed with a wonderful main event.

Next Week:

Prince Puma (Ricochet) vs. Johnny Mundo (John Morrison/Johnny Nitro) - 60-Minute Iron-Man Match for the Lucha Underground World Heavyweight Championship

Until next time...
