BY THE NUMBERS: THE WEEK IN WRESTLING ON TELEVISION

By Richard Trionfo on 2015-05-25 07:53:20
This week is a special week for this column, but not for any milestone number of weeks or for some milestone achieved by a show. This week saw only four of the seven shows feature qualifying matches and the only shows with qualifying matches were from the WWE.

For the first time since the week of December 8, 2014 when we only had contributions from Raw, Smackdown, and Ring of Honor, we had less than 100 minutes of wrestling in a week. In what could only be described as a coincidence, the last time we were under 100 minutes of wrestling, we had 82 minutes of wrestling. That is the same amount of wrestling we had this week from the four WWE shows.

In another coincidence, the week was won by a show with 30 minutes of wrestling. Last year, it was Ring of Honor that won the week, but this time it was Raw that led the pack with 30 minutes of wrestling. For the fourth time in the last twelve weeks, Raw has had 30 minutes or less of wrestling in the three hour presentation.

Smackdown finished in second place with twenty five minutes of wrestling, down two minutes from last week and the third straight week that there has been a decrease in the amount of wrestling from the two hour show that provides numerous Raw recaps. Main Event finished in third place with 17 minutes of wrestling. Superstars had a fourth place finish, but was still a last place finish because of the non-qualifying shows, with ten minutes of wrestling.

We also saw only eighteen matches this week, but with the low total amount of wrestling, it is not surprising that we would only have one ten minute match this week, but only one other match that was eight or more mintues in length. It is not often that a six minute match will fall into the top three matches for length, but this week it happened because there were three matches of that length to get the bronze. There was only one one minute match this week, but there were five matches that were three minutes long.

Next week is Week 275 of this column and while I normally do recaps after 50 week periods, next week will end the first half of this 50 week segment. Even though next week will only see the 24th Raw of the segment because of the January blizzard in the northeast, if Raw has 49 minutes of wrestling next week, they will hit exactly 1,000 minutes for the 25 week period.

Now that Main Event had its 137th episode, we now have the same number of weeks with an episode of Main Event than without Main Event.

Even though it does not count towards the totals in this column, we do acknowledge the NXT specials that air regularly on the WWE Network. This time there were six matches and a total of 61 minutes of wrestling in the two hour special.

The times for the matches on NXT Takeover: Unstoppable were:
Finn Balor versus Tyler Breeze: 11 Minutes
Bayley and Charlotte versus Emma and Dana Brooke: 7 Minutes
Rhyno versus Baron Corbin: 7 Minutes
Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady versus Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy: 9 Minutes
Becky Lynch versus Sasha Banks: 15 Minutes
Kevin Owens versus Sami Zayn: 12 Minutes

This week’s Impact time slot was filled by the 2014 Slammiversary show.

This week’s Ring of Honor television episode was a Road Rage episode from Hopkins, Minnesota featuring the following matches:
Caprice Coleman versus Michael Elgin: 11 Minutes
Kyle O’Reilly versus Jay Lethal: 30 Minutes
Jay Briscoe versus Kyle O’Reilly: 1 Minute
