BROCK LESNAR AT MITB, WHAT VINCE RUSSO SAYS VS. WHAT HE DOES, TIME TO END THE HEEL GM GIMMICK AND MORE

I saw a video Vince Russo did where he took you and another writer to task. He made a bunch of ridiculous statements and then puffed out his chest and said he would say it to your face, like he was in junior high. What do you think would happen if you faced off with him?  Would he say it to your face?

It is funny you mention this because I have seen this EXACT situation play out before. Back when Russo was booking WCW, Buck Woodward (who was working for me at 1Wrestling.com at the time) made a number of statements critical of Russo’s booking (and honestly, Buck could have been even more brutal had he chosen to, Russo’s booking was that bad). Anyway, Russo whine to Bob Ryder (who owned half of the site) about what Buck wrote and asked Bob to arrange for Buck to come to The Great American Bash in Baltimore so he could confront Buck about what he had written. So Buck went and Russo did…..nothing. In fact, at the end of the night, Russo had to be introduced to Buck, who he had requested come. He said hi to Buck and……walked away. So no, Russo wouldn’t do anything. He just likes to hear himself talk. On top of that, he has blocked me on Twitter, so he won’t even let me read his tweets (not that I want to). So he is just a blowhard.

Something I’ve always wondered – when did the Undertaker’s streak become a thing?  I’m sure the first few wins were as much down to coincidental booking as anything else, then from about 13 onwards it was very definitely known as the streak, but what was the point where creative started booking it as a streak so they could highlight it in the future?

I don’t remember the exact date but yes, you are correct. The original plan all those years ago was not to build the streak up to the level that it got to. It happened over time.

Vince, Stephanie, HHH, Vicki Guerrero, Teddy Long, Brad Maddox, Eric Bischoff, Paul Heyman, John Laurinaitis, the Anonymous RAW GM, Kane…etc. Are you as tired of seeing the heel GM or Authority in control? Why can’t superstars just fight each other because they want to be champion? I think we made it through 13 WrestleManias without a need for it and I feel creative just uses it as a booking crutch to not create true heels. Your thoughts?

I have said the same thing on audio MANY times. The heel GM has gotten long in the tooth. I would love to see WWE go to guys/girls creating their own issues, and then fighting over it, for a while. Also, the WWE Title should be the focal point of the company, with every guy wanting to get it. The other problem with the heel GMs, as you mention, is that the heel talent usually ends up looking subservient to the person he works for.

Does hardcore wrestling still have a place in the industry today (aside from overseas and small indy promotions), or is hardcore wrestling dead? I haven't seen HOH in person as I live in Texas, but I do enjoy what they have done as far as iPPV work. I'm just a good old ORIGINAL ECW fan, that wonders if anything like it will ever find a way back into the spotlight.

Blood has no place in my opinion. 20 years ago, we didn’t know what we do now about blood borne diseases. The same is true about shots to the head. With what we know about concussions, it’s just irresponsible to let guys take wicked shots to the cranium. I don’t have any issue with using most weapons, as long as it is done in a safe manor. But overall, I don’t see a hardcore style working on a national basis. It would get too much blowback.

What do you think of the idea of Brock coming back at MITB. Winning the case and having it as a backup to his rematch clause. In the event he gets robbed of his rematch, he can stalk Rollins like the beast he is and attack when ready.

I like the idea of him coming back at any time. But if he came back at MITB I would want him to win the match and retire the briefcase. The gimmick has more than run its course and Brock is the last guy on the roster that should ever need to “cash in”. He is a beast and comes straight at people. That shouldn’t change.
