STING VS. HHH BOOKINGS, PEDRO MORALES, EL TEXANO AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-05-08 10:00:00
Looking back at Sting Vs Triple H...when did the decision get made to turn it into WWE Vs WCW with some nostalgia thrown into the mix with the NWO and DX? The whole build up was primarily around Sting wanting to stop Triple H from causing the WWE irreparable damage, even in the vignettes on the night of Wrestlemania. And now leaving Sting on the shelf as well just seems like madness to me. Even that small touch of Triple H patting Sting's face just seems like it was a bad idea now as much as I enjoyed the match and the spectacle of it on the night. I guess I'm curious about your thoughts along with the original question about the booking. Lol

The WCW vs. WWF addition to the bout was something made within the last two weeks prior to Wrestlemania I was told. I think that decision was made when the company, for whatever reason, decided they wouldn't be moving forward with Sting as a regular character in the company. My belief was and is that they could have gotten 2-3 good PPV bouts out of Sting if they had built up to them over the next year but obviously, WWE management didn't feel the same. Sting remains associated with the company, so it's possible we'll see him again but there's been no real talk of it in recent weeks. I agree completely that the booking made no real sense but the WWE's thought process was that the idea of WCW vs. WWE and DX vs. NWO would get a reaction and they were right in that regard. Still, not the way I'd want to see Sting's career end.

El Texano on Lucha Underground - is he related to the Texano that popped up in WCW?

Yes, it's his son. In Mexico, he is billed as Hijo de Texano.

What was your first wrestling show you went to?

WWF at Madison Square Garden December 26, 1986, headlined by Hulk Hogan vs. Kamala.

If Jim Crockett had not gone national, do you think he would still be in business. Being from Charlotte it was the only wrestling I knew since I did not have cable until 1994.

It's possible he could have lasted longer but could he have made enough money to keep his talent? Would wrestlers have wanted to go to WWE to make more as opposed to being regional stars? Would he have been able to do PPV if he didn't run nationally? Would TBS have been interested in keeping the programming? These are all factors we can't answer.

Where is Pedro Morales these days? You don't hear much about him and he's never seen with the WWE Legends.

Morales is living in New Jersey, but has chosen not to make public appearances due to health issues in recent years.
