GOLDBERG SAYS HE'S RETURNING TO PRO WRESTLING

By Mike Johnson on 2015-04-24 22:31:47

In a interview with FOXSports.com, former WWE and WCW World champion Bill Goldberg said he would be returning to the ring, but not as part of a deal with WWE.

In the interview, Goldberg said he was "sick and tired" of dealing with wrestling promoters and would put together a deal through his own connections to come back for one more pro wrestling bout on his own.

Goldberg last wrestled in the United States at Wrestlemania 20 in 2004, where and Brock Lesnar were each booed out of the building by NYC fans in Madison Square Garden as it was their final scheduled bout for WWE at the time.

Goldberg's last professional wrestling bout was 4/1/04 in Saitama, Japan, where he defeated Naoya Ogawa at a HUSTLE-1 event. He was then slated to face All Japan Pro Wrestling legend Toshiaki Kawada in August 2004, but the bout was canceled due to injury.

Since retiring as a pro wrestler, Goldberg has done a huge amount of charity work and has worked as an announcer for GLORY Kickboxing. He has long stated (including in an interview with yours truly in our Elite section) that he was ready and able to return to the ring (especially since his children were now old enough to see him do it) and still trained as if he was ready to compete in MMA or pro wrestling but wouldn't do so unless the right deal was in place.

In the interview, Goldberg said, "If I put wrestling boots and wrestling trunks on one last time -- and I'm going to -- it's going to be done by me and me only."

Goldberg also made it clear that while he doesn't feel the need to mince words about his time with WWE, he does feel he owes wrestling fans one more bout.

"Though (professional wrestling) would not have been my first choice by any stretch of the imagination, I cannot turn my back on the fact that it made me who I am today in the public eye."
