THE PUNK WEDDING FIRING (AGAIN), SAN ANTONIO GETTING A WRESTLEMANIA, CRUEL CONNECTION AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-04-17 10:00:00
my friend and I are trying to figure out why San Antonio wouldn't get a WM. i was thinking isolation from other area, median income and MSA population. Superdome and New Orleans are older and have less MSA population but N.O is a more world class city. Thoughts?

My guess is that WWE hasn't had a huge bid from San Antonio yet. They have Dallas coming up so my guess is they wouldn't be looking to going back to Texas for a few more years. It all comes down to what each market can offer them.

I love the Ivan Koloff idea of him mentoring and using WWE history to build Rusev's character? With as much TV as WWE has to fill (not to mention the Network), why do you feel WWE doesn't use their history more to help with character development? Do you think they believe their current audience wouldn't know or care about some of the old timers that are not presented on TV quarterly (Jimmy Hart, Steamboat, Piper, Patterson, Hogan, Bret Hart, Flair, etc.) I for one would love to have seen Barry Windham, Lex Luger, etc for the Sting vs. HHH build. Ivan and Nikita Koloff (who I always liked in the past) would be amazing to see in a build.

It comes down to a few factors. Politically, only certain veterans are ever really used for the most part. You never see Tully Blanchard around, for example. Secondly, my guess is that WWE management doesn't think it would be worth the TV time investment, which is something I personally disagree with.

The Punk Wedding day debate. Why do you think there are so many people clammoring to come to WWE defense over this. It was an obvious petty move from a multi-national company who felt that they were one upped and disparaged by an employee so wanted revenge. I believe that to be cut and dry. I would think Vince had to apologize to save face, but believe it to be more of an HHH/Stephanie action. He was once the darling and the guy everyone wanted to rise up (not unlike Daniel Bryan) but once he is the real Steve Austin (telling the boss where to go) he gets dropped. Fickle fans?

I think there are a LOT of fans who feel like Punk walked out and owed them something. I have sympathy for Punk fans who bought tickets to Wrestlemania expecting he would be in a major angle but beyond that, I don't think any of them have a real case. There's always been a fanbase that has a sense of loyalty to WWE the way baseball fans love their local sports team and that doesn't always man they are going to react the most logical, refined way. I can respect their passion, but they are seeing things the way they want to see them, not from a factual perspective.

Who were The Cruel Connection in the NWA and WCW?

George South and Gary Royal.

Whatever happened to Pez Whatley?

Sadly, Pez Whatley passed away of a heart attack in 2005 after several years of health issues.
