BROCK LESNAR-WWE CONTRACT UPDATE - WILL HE STAY OR WILL HE GO?

By Dave Scherer on 2015-03-24 18:47:41

Brock Lesnar appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter a few minutes ago, where he was interviewed by Michelle Beadle.  Unfortunately the female anchor didn’t know his name and called him “Brock Leslar” as she did the promo for the segment as they went to commercial break.  Oops.  At least she got it right when she turned it over for the interview.

Beadle immediately asked about the status of his WWE contract, which expires this weekend.  Brock said it was a very hard decision for him to make.  He is at a stage in his career where….and he got a bit choked up.  He said the fighter in him wants to fight, the father in him wants to provide.  He said his legacy in the Octagon is over.  His legacy in the ring will continue.  He said that it took him a year to make the decision and he wanted to be the one to announce it.  He said he wants to have fun and while he has been training the last two months to get back in the Octagon, something was missing mentally for him.

Brock said that he was born to be an entertainer and he likes it.  He said if he went back to UFC, what would he have to gain (which I have been saying for months now).  He said his run in UFC ended due to injury and he didn’t want it to end that way, which is understandable.

Beadle asked if he was officially closing the door on MMA and he said, "yes".  Brock said that he re-signed with WWE last night.  He said he could not refuse the offer on the table.  He was asked about the timing of the signing and he said that he wanted the fans to know before Sunday.  He wants the fans to go home “with that damn belt”.  Beadle said he had a great poker face because he wouldn't tip her either way before they went on the air.

He talked about being seen at the Ronda Rousey fight.  He said it wasn’t a negotiating tactic, he just wanted to feel the atmosphere one more time.  He said Dana White was fine with his decision as if you don't want to fight, you shouldn't be in the Octagon.

Beadle threw it back to the set, where Jonathan Coachman was brought in.  He asked Brock if he did this decision because now he gets to perform, as opposed to practicing for UFC.  He said yes and that Vince McMahon put an offer on the table last night that he just couldn’t refuse.  Brock said he has a great deal where he works part time with full time pay (so that aspect will continue).  Coach asked how much fun he will have on Sunday.  Brock said that he has fun and if you watch his matches you will have fun.  He closed by saying he loved the business, but hates the travel, so this is great for him.

Great, great news for WWE.
