TOD GORDON IN THE WWE HALL OF FAME, WHY AJ LEE WAS NEVER ON TOTAL DIVAS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-02-13 10:00:00
On the subject of Chyna in the Hall of Fame, if WWE had done segments during the anything goes Attitude era with Ron Jeremy would they induct him in the HOF now?

They DID do segments with Jenna Jameson and I don't think she's going in ever, so no.

Do you think the WWE did the right thing or the wrong thing by discontinuing its magazine especially considering that print media has been declining as of late?

As of late? Print media has been declining for a decade. I am sorry personally to hear that the magazine was shut down, but at the end of the day, WWE is a business and if the business makes more money by having what would have been the magazine pieces placed on WWE.com and driving revenue that way, I'd say they did the right thing.

Was AJ Lee ever considered to take part in the show Total Divas? If she was can you imagine the possibility of her being taped alongside her husband CM Punk? Would Mr. McMahon allow such a thing to happen?

AJ Lee turned down the chance to be on the show several times. It wasn't how she wanted to be seen or presented publicly.

What's the latest on the possible return of the Mid Atlantic Wrestling FanFest that was once held every year around the month of August? It was once announced that it would no longer take place but some time after it was reported that the event would return but under different circumstances. What's the word?

The word is exactly what you said. Greg Price is bringing the event back, but will no longer be personally booking guests for the event. The ticket price for the weekend is cheaper and any guests who are brought in will be third-party vendor guests who charge for signatures and autographs. Personally, as a huge fan of the atmosphere that weekend brings and as a huge fan of history, I am thrilled the event will continue. It's the highlight of the year to me personally.

Do you ever see Tod Gordon going in the WWE Hall of Fame?

I don't, because for whatever reason, WWE has chosen to take the narrative that Tod was the guy who started ECW and then sold it off to Paul Heyman. That really isn't the case. Gordon was as much the heart and soul of what ECW was in it's glory era as anyone and often was the person Heyman bounced the ideas off of. Gordon put his personal money in to create it and ran it for many years, because he wanted there to be something different for wrestling fans because he loved wrestling. He was the one who brought ECW to TV for the first time and footed the bill as it expanded into new markets. He brought Paul Heyman on and allowed ECW to become what it evolved into and even after he decided that Heyman's plans to make it into something bigger than Gordon envisioned were different from his own, he allowed Heyman to buy it from him and take it on. Even after that, Gordon performed, he helped with creative, he was pretty much an agent, he was the voice for the people, etc. Once he left in 1997, ECW was never really the same, either. How anyone can ever say that doesn't amount to a Hall of Famer is beyond me, but all that said, I don't see WWE ever wanting to honor him. They should, but hey, they should also honor Sam Muchnick, Roy Shires and a lot of other promoters. Maybe they'll surprise us by doing it when Wrestlemania eventually comes to Philly, but I really, really, really don't see it ever happening. That said, Tod is a first ballot Hall of Famer in my book and I think in the book of anyone who really understands their history. He put his money where his mouth is and changed wrestling. That's something not a lot of people can say they accomplished.
