Hello. Just wondering if you could help me with this. Why Daniel Bryan. Why have the majority of wrestling chosen Daniel Bryan as some sort wrestling genesis. Ok the guy is good in the ring but at times he is reckless (as proven with his injury this year), he does not look in anyway like an athlete nor can he speak on the mike (bar saying yes or no). There are plenty of other wrestlers who have better ring work, look better and can speak better, the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, even Roman Reigns. It looks like the tides are turning with fans. Hopefully these guys will get their chance in 2015 instead of Daniel Bryan.
I always find it kind of amusing when I get variations of this question. People like wrestlers for their own reasons. Bryan obviously connects with a lot of people. Explaining why someone connects with someone is an inexact science, but I can start with he is every man. He works really hard is not reckless. He is an underdog that keeps coming back. That appeals to a lot of people.
So in 2012, TNA was hitting over 1.3m viewers regularly and even 1.7m at one point. Their first episode on Destination did under 400K. Now I understand the network has less viewers, but even their spike numbers were sometimes over 500k down from a couple of years ago. Hogan, Bischoff & Russo get a bad rap but since they have left the numbers have left with them. Do you have any opinion on why the numbers have dropped so much? (even before Destination)
Over the years, they did so many things that turned people off. Over time, some just gave up. Hogan, Bischoff and Russo deserve their share of the blame because their actions have helped get TNA to where they are now. Having the purse strings cut back has hurt them too and they have lost recognizable names. But paying out more than they were taking in was not sustainable so change had to be made. I honestly think that the decisions that were made at the top over the years have hurt the company. I hope they can turn it around on their new home, but it won’t be easy as they only hit about 60% of the homes that Spike TV did on Destination America.
What is your take on Bull Dempsey? Personally I really see something in him.
I like him. I hope they give him a real chance. I think he could be a good character/worker on the main roster down the road.
Growing up I always thought that the original triple threat (Shane Douglas, Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit) was a very good stable however, in my opinion overlooked as a dominant group. In your opinion, what is your thoughts about the triple threat and what was your all time favorite stable growing up?
They were a good, solid unit for sure. For me, my favorite group was always the Four Horsemen (Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson and Barry Windham).
I hear you are against Roman Reigns getting a push @ WrestleMania and instead pushing for Daniel Bryan getting a shot, again. You always criticized WWE for not giving new guys a shot at the top. Now WWE gives a new guy, that you don't like, a shot and you are routing for an old guy (who had his moment and chance at the top) like Bryan to get the top spot. Why not give Reigns a chance???
I made that exact same point on my hotline Tuesday so you didn’t hear me say it. I get that we always say we want to see new blood at the top. With that said, Reigns also needs to step up to the push. WWE can’t go ahead with a Mania headline match that they feel isn’t resonating. WWE has to make sure they give us the best possible main event, just for business’ sake. And not for nothing, Bryan was only at the top for a month or so before he got hurt, and he never did lose the Title, so it’s not like it’s John Cena-Randy Orton for the 104th time.
