CENA'S FUTURE IN THE RING, THOSE WHO GIVE BACK TO THE BUSINESS, TAG TEAMS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-01-02 10:00:00
It's clear that the WWE's Divas Division isn't a main focus or priority. Back in the Attitude Era, it played a prominent role in television and storylines and people were invested in it almost as much as other divisions. Gone are those days, and there is no more gratuitousness for the women's division because of the PG era presently. So if the main roles of the Divas now are not focused on being just eye candy, why doesn't the WWE focus on their wrestling abilities? It seems like they still hire or push Divas based on looks and not their in-ring prowess or acting abilities.

The main focus of the Divas division now is for the women to be reality TV stars, that's why. The wrestling aspect is, at the very least, secondary, as The Total Divas franchise brings in a lot of money for WWE and E!

Should all pro wrestling (and sports entertainment) companies get rid of the standard tag team match? I think it would make more sense to have only tornado tag rules. The matches would be more fun to watch but there could be problems with one ref enforcing the rules such as count out, DQ, etc. I just think the whole tag concept is outdated and ridiculous since there is constant interference in most tag matches.

I don't think tag team wrestling is outdated. I think it's not presented as anything important. If WWE or another promotion gave us a good 20-25 minute tag match, it would greatly improve the in-ring presentation of their shows. Unfortunately, a lot of the psychology of the tag matches have dissipated as the older workers get older and are replaced by younger talents who aren't as well versed.

I am looking forward to the Royal Rumble as it is and has always been my favourite WWE event. If Daniel Bryan is miraculously cleared to go, do you see the WWE making him a surprise entrant in the rumble and winning it all? Sure it would be like 2008 when John Cena did it but I?d like to believe that the support for Bryan hasn?t wavered since he?s been gone even if he?s involved in a finish that has already been done. It could to a small degree make up for last year?s Royal Rumble when fans were left disappointed after Rey Mysterio drew #30 and Bryan wasn?t involved in the Royal Rumble match at all. Your thoughts?

Well, you sent your question in a little early as Daniel Bryan is in the match. So, now you have a new reason to be excited.

Besides Vince McMahon, I feel like the two people that give the most back to wrestling as a whole are Tommy Dreamer and Jeff Jarrett. Both try to reinvest and create new avenues for wrestling fans and give the people what they want the most. Have there been any other people that have made a major contribution to the business like them? I want to say Eric Bischoff for reviving WCW with the NWO.

I'd go with Paul Heyman and Tod Gordon. The ripple effects of what they did in ECW are still being felt today. I'd also go with Jim Cornette. He found Ring of Honor a new owner that helped lock in its survival and did a lot to groom talent in SMW.

I am a huge John Cena fan. Nobody can ever deny the sheer excitement and electricity that he brings to WWE shows. Even his most ardent detractors can concede that without him, WWE just wouldn't be the same. I honestly shudder at the mere thought of him hanging up his boots. Realistically, for how much longer can you forsee him being an active member of the roster? God willing, for as long as possible. Thank you.

That is a great question. The injuries are obviously piling up and now Hollywood is calling. I could be completely wrong, but I'd be shocked if he is still in the ring five years from now.
