DOUG WOOD CLARIFIES WHY HE LEFT SECW

By Doug Wood on 2014-12-17 06:32:44

My name is Doug Wood and until late November, I was the editor and shooter for SECW.

Since I started working on the show, the logistics of shooting, editing, and airing a show that was produced in Knoxville, but relied on resources from California, were almost impossible. Voice overs are cut in California after I posted rough cut matches to a private You Tube channel. I would, at the earliest, receive VO’s early Thursday and at the latest, late Friday.

With all these hurdles to jump, there was never an instance when the show was delivered late or missed an airing. David Marquez and I agreed on a production rate that was beyond reasonable for him and almost an insult to me. Mr. Marquez saved tens of thousands of dollars in production costs, yet was never able to pay me when payment was supposed to be made.

At the time I quit, Mr. Marquez was two months in arrears, and had promised to pay me on at least 3 occasions, including the night of the last taping. That never happened. I informed David that the shows would cease if I weren’t paid. I never received payment for the last two edits and the last two shoots, including payment for the second camera man.

I don’t hold any personal grudge against David Marquez, but business is business. I have been a television and commercial producer for over two decades and this is the first time I have ever quit a project before its completion.”
