11/29 PRESTON CITY WRESTLING VS. RING OF HONOR AFTERNOON EVENT LIVE REPORT

ROH invades England for inaugural "Supershow" of Honor" - Afternoon show report

The show started with the announcement that this afternoons main event between the Briscoe Brothers and REDragon is now for the ROH World Tag Team titles. That's pretty cool. After some mocking of Vince McMahon and the dead crowd reaction at WWE's recent UK tapings getting right on with the action and our opening match sees PCW's El Ligero up against Uhaa Nation, Tomasso Ciampa and BJ Whitmer in a four corner match. This was pretty good, some comedy spots with Ligero early on and then it took off, lots of stiff clotheslines and flying moves. Uhaa pinned Ligero with two standing shooting star splashes at the nine minute mark.

Chris Masters came out with the title belt and taunted Uhaa, telling him to take a seat at ringside to watch the next match. Masters wrestled Michael Elgin in match two, there were lots of cool power spots where they went back and forth holding vertical suplexes. Elgin held one for 30 seconds. Crowd chanted we want 60. Not happening. Uhaa got up on the apron at the finish and distracted masters, allowing Elgin to roll him up for the win in 16 minutes. Masters defends the PCW title against Nation this evening.

Match three put obnoxious local heel Joey Hayes against ACH. Toward the end of the match ACH did the stomping a mudhole, the Thesz press and the stone cold stunner to huge pops ... but no avail. Joey shoved the ref to knock ACH off the top rope and pinned him with both feet on the ropes in 11 minutes.

There's very little between matches this afternoon, were going right to the next match. Paul London does the super long ring entrance with the crowd. Roderick Strong is waiting in the ring for him to finish. They had a good back and forth match with some cool spots, London diving off the wall at ringside was a highlight. Lots of drop kicks and back and forth wrestling in this one. Strong kicked out of the shooting star off the top and hit a suplex into a backbreaker of some kind to get the pin at the 13 minute mark.

Intermission time next, which means I have time to find a seat and write this.

We come back after the intermission with Adam Cole beating PCW's Noam Dar in 18 minutes. This match suffered from being right after the break because the crowd were flat by this point and they went for the slow build up. Dar got a nice topé in in the middle, and the last five minutes were really strong and won the crowd back. They just about saved it but it still dragged.

Martin Kirkby defeated Cedric Alexander in about 13-14 minutes. Another decent match, I can't really say much more about it at this point because everything's kinda running together.

The next paragraph is one of the strangest things you'll ever read in a wrestling report. Team Single (T-Bone, Rampage, Bubblegum) took on Team Thug Life (Manson, Rayne and Mastiff) .. this was the all PCW match. Manson was playing 2Pac earlier on and rode T-Bone around the ring pretending to do a drive by. Bubblegum was taken out after trying to lift Mastiff and ... uh ... defecating himself, for lack of a better term. Dave Rayne started trying "RKO's out of nowhere" but none of them worked so he did it to his own partner. Rayne found himself hog tied and gagged so that Manson could "get his revenge" and he produced what was meant to be a d**do but was actually "a coke bottle taped up cos it's the afternoon show!" Bubblegum snuck back in, soiled pants and all and rolled Manson up for the win before he could violate Rayne. Hilarious, ridiculous ... awesome!

The main event saw REDragon beat the Briscoes in a pretty good 20 minute match. Lots of strong wrestling and hard, stiff kicks in this one. Jay hit a tiger driver on Fish for the win at one point but Bubblegum returned and pulled the ref out. Jay brawled to the back with them but was attacked by Team Single in the entrance way and O'Reilly vertical suplexed Mark for the win. REDragon are still your ROH tag champs.

After the match Bubblegum said that REDragon owe him a favour tonight after he saved their titles. Fish kicked him in the head and O'Reilly dropped him. Kyle said that they are "belt collectors" and he will take Bubblegum's PCW Cruiserweight title... tonight! End of show.

Good show, lots of good wrestling and a couple of angles to set up the evening show tonight. The crowd wasn't as loud as usual though, there was the odd bit of banter and interaction but it was the "hangover show" and they acknowledged that. 11:45am bell time after an all night party on the Friday somewhat cursed it. Check back tonight for a report on the 2nd show of the day!
