ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER RETURNS TO WWC TV, FORMER WWC & WWL STAR GETS WWE TRYOUT, WWC ANNIVERSARIO NEWS, CARLITOS INJURY UPDATE, EWO AND MORE NEWS: THE ISLE OF PUERTO RICO

World Wrestling Council (WWC)

WWC ran a vignette during last weekend’s TV shows where they presented “El Magnate” Juan Manuel Ortega traveling to Atlanta, GA. He then visited Abdullah The Butcher’s restaurant and spoke with Abby about becoming his consultant in his quest to destroy the legacy of the Colón family in Puerto Rico.  He stated during the vignette that he will be starting with Carlito at the Aniversario 41 event, when his client Mighty Ursus will be facing him.  He agreed to do so, and in typical Abby fashion he asked for a cash advance. Abdullah then told Ortega that he had a gift for him to bring to Ursus.  He reached for his famous fork and handed it to Ortega who thanked him and told him that together they will wipe the Colón’s from wrestling.  This was a good promo. However, in my opinion, if you are not going to be able to fly Abby to the show and have him intervene in some fashion during the match, I really didn’t see the point of it. Still, I can definitely appreciate they are trying to garner as much attention as possible en route to their biggest event of the year.

Speaking of the company’s biggest event of the year, “Aniversario 41” will be taking place over the course of this weekend. The company has announced that the celebration will consist of a three day tour: tomorrow night, Friday October 24th at the “Francisco ‘Paquito’ Montaner Stadium” in Ponce, PR; Saturday October 25th at the “Héctor Solá Bezares Coliseum” in Caguas, PR; and Sunday October 26th at the “Luis ‘Canena’ Márquez Stadium” in Aguadilla, PR. Friday and Saturday shows have a bell-time of 8:00PM, and Sunday’s show has a bell-time of 6:00PM.

“Aniversario 41” is being dedicated to none-other than “EL Rey de la Lucha Libre” Chicky Starr. There will be a recognition segment regarding Starr’s career. It will most likely take place during their main show of the weekend, on Saturday night in Caguas. Starr has been a staple of Puerto Rican wrestling since the early 80’s where he was billed as an undercard babyface that was trained by Invader #1. In 1985 Starr slowly turned heel, after he accused Invader #1 of holding his career down and preventing him from getting important title matches. Starr challenged Invader #1 to a match. The match was televised and Chicky Starr attacked his mentor with a steel chair.   On the following days, Starr bleached his hair and began one of the biggest heel characters in Puerto Rican wrestling history. He has not only been known as a wrestler, but also as one of the best heel managers. Over the years, many big stars were part of his stables, “Chicky Starr’s Sports Club” (WWC) and “Starr Corporation” (IWA-PR), the likes of Abdullah The Butcher, Ron Starr, Al Perez, “Sadistic” Steve Strong, Manny Fernandez, Dutch Mantell, Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody, and Hercules Ayala among others.

WWC has announced the addition of Slash Venom (a.k.a. Flash Flanagan) to the Aniversario events this weekend. The following is the announced card for Friday’s show in Ponce, PR:

*Main Event: Invader #1 & “Mr. Ray-tings” Ray González vs Mighty Ursus & “El Macho de 7 Suelas” Bronco #1

*Xix Xavant vs Slash Venom
*WWC World Jr. Heavyweight Title Match: Rikochet (c) vs Angel “Fashion” Pérez w/ Vanilla Vargas

As I have stated previously, the main show of the weekend tour will take place on Saturday in Caguas, PR. Here is the card as it has been announced for this show:

There are two disclaimers that the company has publicly made regarding the iPPV event on Saturday:

- The matches taking place during this event will not be televised for at least one year after the show.
- The WWC World Tag Team Title Match will not be part of the iPPV coverage (Jose’s NOTE: This is most likely due to the participation of WWE characters in this match).

World Wrestling League (WWL)

After the success of their event “INSURRECTION” last weekend, the company has been the “talk of the town”. Fans have been singing their praises about what they experienced during the show and what they expect from the company going forward. It definitely feels like there is a new alternative in the island and it has created a lot of excitement among the fans.

You can read my account of what took place last Saturday evening during the show elsewhere on the site on my live report, which I filed in last Sunday night. Also, our friends of “Contralona PR”, have released a video recap of everything, from the fan interaction segment before the show to some clips of the different matches that took place. You can watch the video package at the following link: http://youtu.be/w4Y_rMwSHlw.

You can also find several interviews that local reporter “Mr. Clase Aparte” Pedro Figueroa conducted after the event with Thunder & Lightning, Mr. 450, WWL’s President Richard Negrín and many more. You can these interviews by visiting www.facebook.com/luchalibreonline.

The promotion has stated via their Facebook fan page that they will be announcing more dates for November and December events very soon. I would venture to guess that the announcements will most likely begin during this weekend’s episode of their TV show. It has also been stated that they will be announcing dates for events in Dominican Republic and Mexico shortly.

Two updates coming out of the show this past weekend:

As we had reported earlier this week, “El Sensasional” Carlitos spent a couple of days in the hospital due to an injury he sustained during his awesome match last Saturday against “Mr. 450”. The injury was to the mouth/jaw area. Thankfully, Carlitos is now out of the hospital and is doing much better. He is very appreciative of the outpour of support that he has been receiving from the fans during the last several days and is looking forward to returning to action in a few weeks. Our best wishes of a continued speedy recovery go out to Carlitos, who is definitely one of the most beloved and talented your rising stars in Puerto Rico’s wrestling scene today

On another note, Atlas (a.k.a. Sebastian Guerra in WWC) posted a message on his Facebook page a few hours after the event was over, where he stated that he would no longer be a part of WWL. He thanked the company for the opportunity and stated that he has a lot of things to prepare for in his career and is focused on achieving his goals. During the course of the week he posted pictures from the WWE Performance Center, where he took part in the Try-Outs this past week.
