World Wrestling League (WWL)

World Wrestling League (WWL) will hold their first event in Puerto Rico in over a year, INSURRECTION, this coming Saturday October 18th at the “Pepín Cestero Arena” in Bayamón, PR. Bell time for the event will be 8:00PM. All eyes are in this event this coming Saturday as the company has guaranteed this will be the so-called “resurgence of Puerto Rican wrestling”. If we judge by their TV product, we could say that they have been delivering up to this point. Their “trial-by-fire” will be this Saturday’s event, where they have to deliver on what they have been advertising.

The show has a very attractive card for the fans here in the island, as it provides a mix of veteran names that the fans are familiar with and young talent that should get the proverbial “rub” from said stars. We will see if they deliver this Saturday. We will have coverage of the event here on the site. Not sure yet if I will be able to do live reporting or if the report will go up after the event, as we are working on getting a good network connection. Either way, you will definitely be able to find out what takes place on the event right here. We will also be covering the press conference taking place after the event.

And speaking of press conference, WWL held one this past Monday during the morning hours. The following press release from the company talks about what took place there and also includes information and links to their TV episodes from this past weekend:

WWL Insurrection Press Conference

Former WWF/E Superstar, Savio Vega, is the new WWL Director of Operations.

(San Juan, Puerto Rico, Wednesday October 15th, 2014) - World Wrestling League’s (WWL), president, Richard Negrín, held a press conference on Monday October 13th at the Nihon Sushi Bar restaurant in Guaynabo, alongside several of the WWL’s talent. The conference was masterfully hosted by "El Rudo de los Rudos" Axel Cruz. This conference comes in advance of the company’s event INSURRECTION, taking place this Saturday October 18th at the Pepín Cestero Arena in Bayamón; with a bell time of 8:00PM. During the so-called “Insurrection”, the WWL’s World title will be up for grabs, when current champion Monster Pain, with Mistress Glenda Lee, faces Shane “The Glamour Boy”.

There will also be two new champions crowned during the evening. The first being the new America’s title, which will be decided with an “International Triple Threat” match involving Laredo Kid from México, "El Latino Dorado" Joe Bravo from Dominican Republic and "El Fenómeno" BJ from Puerto Rico; all wanting to become the first ever America’s champion, with "El Hacedor de Campeones" José Chaparro looking to offer his managing services to one of them. The other debuting belt is the WWL’s Extreme championship, which will be disputed between two ECW ORIGINALS, Sabu and Balls Mahoney.

The question that we all have been asking is: who is the Director of Operations? Well, during the press conference we it was announced that Savio Vega is the person that will hold the position in World Wrestling League.

The press conference was abruptly interrupted by "La Mina de Oro" D-Nniss Rivera, who was involved in a heated argument with WWL’s president Richard Negrín and Savio Vega, Director of Operations.

D-Nniss Rivera arrived at the press conference looking for answers to all his questions, and he was faced with the reality that his own brother, was the Director. Things escalated in a matter of seconds between Savio Vega, D-Nniss Rivera and Richard Negrín. Savio Vega mentioned that he was hired to do a job and he will do just that. “Si tengo que despedir a mi hermano, lo haré” (If I have to fire my brother, I will do it), the “Boricua Mayor”, Vega stated.

World Wrestling Council (WWC)

The big WWC news that circulated toward the end last week was that Savio Vega left the company to go join WWL. His departure came on the heels of the company making the announcement last week that Alberto “El Patrón” (Del Río) would appear during their Aniversario 41 events either. It definitely has been a couple of rough weeks for the company, but as they approach their biggest event of the year, they continue to make adjustments in an effort to give the fans the kind of event they always accustomed to have.

WWC had a show last Friday October 10th at the “Yabucoa Arena”. With no Savio Vega, Carlito defended his WWC Puerto Rico Heavyweight title against “The Precious One” Gilbert. Gilbert defeated Carlito and became the new Puerto Rico champion that evening with the help of his protégé “Big Daddy” David Montes.

The next night, they held a house show/TV taping at the ““Pepín Cestero Arena” in Bayamón, PR. The following are the results from the card:

1. Rikochet retained his WWC Jr. Heavyweight title after he defeated Samuel Adams.

2. “Bouncer” Bob defeated Jay Vélez.

3. “El Templario” William De La Vega defeated Mike Mendoza, after ASH distracted the referee and De La Vega hit Mendoza with a foreign object.

4. Xix Xavant defeated “Big Daddy” David Montes.

There was a live “La Opinión de Gilbert” segment with Chicano as his guest. Gilbert started to mock Chicano’s boxing and music careers. When Chicano takes the mic and goes to defend himself, he is attacked by David Montes and Gilbert until he is able to leave the ring. He then takes the mic and challenges Gilbert to a match anywhere, any place he wants, whenever he wants.

5. “Mr. Ray-tings” Ray González defeated Gilbert when Chicano sneaks-up to the ring and hits a KO punch on Gilbert.

6. Huracan Castillo defeated Chicano after interference from Gilbert, who distracted the referee in order for Castillo to hit Chicano with the ring-bell for the win.

7. Carlito and Mighty Ursus went on to a “No Contest” as the match got out of hand and the referee could not control it. They were brawling all over the arena until several referees and wrestlers came out to separate them.

Ricardo Rodríguez came out with a Mexican flag in hand and insulted the fans. This brings out Ray González who confronts him. Rodriguez insulted González too and gets him to start to beat him and prepare him for the figure 4, when none other than former TNA star, “Superman” Hernandez, comes out of nowhere and beats up González. He then sets up a table and hits González with a power-bomb through it. The referees come out to the ring and are able to get Hernandez and Rodriguez to back off and leave, while González was taken out on a stretcher.

The results from these two shows last week help set up the path for Aniversario 41. Speaking of WWC’s biggest event of the year, “Aniversario 41” is being dedicated to none-other than “EL Rey de la Lucha Libre” Chicky Starr. The company has added one more date to the now three day tour: Friday October 24th at the “Francisco ‘Paquito’ Montaner Stadium” in Ponce, PR; Saturday October 25th at the “Hector Solá Bezares Coliseum” in Caguas, PR; and now Sunday October 26th at the “Luis T. Díaz Coliseum” in Aguadilla, PR. Friday and Saturday shows have a bell-time of 8:00PM, and Sunday’s show has a bell-time of 5:00PM.
