AMC CUTS BACK REALITY PROGRAMMING, WRESTLING-BASED REALITY SERIES GONE BEFORE DEBUTING

By Mike Johnson on 2014-10-10 15:33:44
Variety reported today that AMC has drastically cut back it's reality series plans for the future, killing off two series ("Game of Arms", which had it's second season scrapped in the middle of filming and "4th and Loud", which will not be brought back after it completes it's first season) that were already airing on the Network and killing all development on others in the pipeline.

One of the casualties here is the series based around Chicago's Resistance Pro, owned by Billy Corgan, which was picked up in May for an eight episode first season. The series was designed to be 60 minutes per episode. No premiere broadcast had been announced.

Promotional material for the series noted that it would follow, "Corgan in his latest undertaking as creative director of Resistance Pro, a Chicago-based wrestling league. Corgan goes behind the scenes of this fascinating world, from creating storylines to choreographing fights to managing intense post-match locker room arguments, revealing that the most dramatic stories often take place outside of the ring. Series is produced by Left/Right (Small Town Security, This American Life, Mob Wives) and executive produced by Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver, Billy Corgan, and Ghen Maynard."

We are told that AMC has given it's blessing for producers to shop the series around to potential broadcast or streaming outlets.

The only reality-based series that will remain with the Network are "Talking Dead" and "Comic Book Men."
