END OF AN ERA FOR WWE, WRESTLEMANIA PARTNER SHUTS DOORS, NXT IN WWE 2K15, HULK HOGAN IS NOT IN NIGERIA AND MORE

The final issue of WWE Magazine began hitting the shelves this week with The former members of The Shield on the cover. This ends a 30 year run for the magazine.

Today was also the final day of operations for the Trump Plaza casino in Atlantic City, NJ. The casino was a sponsor for Wrestlemanias 4 and 5 in 1988 and 1989 when the event was held next door at what is know known as Boardwalk Hall. It began a long relationship between WWE and Donald Trump as well, leading to his WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2013. The partnership with Trump Plaza also opened up the door for a lot of weekend activities in association with Wrestlemania (a 5K run, a Wrestlemania breakfast event, signings, etc.) so that families could come to the events and spend the weekend in AC. Those events set WWE on the path to what is now the week-long Wrestlemania AXXESS. WWE's Basil Devito went into a lot of detail about the Trump partnership with Wrestlemania in his 2001 book on Wrestlemania. The actual venue where the shows were held, Boardwalk Hall, operates independently of the casino and is not shutting down. NBC News in NYC featured coverage of the casino shutting down (and Donald Trump's reaction) at this link.

The achievements for the WWE 2K15 videogame include beating John Cena while playing as a NXT talent, so it would appear some of the NXT roster are going to be incorporated into the game for the first time. That's really cool. It would be really, really cool down the line if they went out and got the rights to do entire rosters for past promotions as well. I've been waiting years for them do a game with the original Four Horsemen, etc.

Contrary to apparent rumors, Hulk Hogan is not in Nigeria. Seriously. The Guardian covered the big rumor. I wonder what Power Uti has to say about all this.

Mick Foley was interviewed by The Maple Ridge Times about his upcoming comedy tour date there at this link.
