GREAT MAIN EVENT CAPS A STRONG, STRONG SHOW - FULL NXT TAKEOVER FATAL FOUR WAY BLOG

By Dave Scherer on 2014-09-11 22:02:23

I am about ten minutes behind, but the pause function on Roku is working well so far.

The pre-game show was solid, other than one thing….the announcers pushing we could get the Network for $9.99. Uh, we are watching the show on the Network, we already know that. The high point, to me anyway, was that they made a big deal out of Renee Young making history calling the show. That is pretty damn cool.

The show opened with Sin Cara and Kalisto taking on The Ascension for the NXT Tag Titles. They showed footage of how the challengers got to this point. The announcers put over that The Ascension are the longest reigning NXT Tag Champs. The match opened with Cara vs. Viktor. Konnor came in and they, together, worked over Cara. … As Viktor told Kalisto he was next, Cara hit a rana but Konnor ran in and took control after wiping out Kalisto. … But then the luchadors came back and hit a ton of lucha spots (the good kind, not the overly scripted variety). They even did a spot where Viktor destroyed Kalisto and he set up for a lucha spot. But Sin Cara saved him and Kalisto hit his finisher on Konnor for the win. New NXT champions. … It was a good, solid match where they did a good job of mixing the styles. The show is off to a good start.

After the match, Renee interviewed the new champions. They are happy to be the champions.

Then, the announcers paid tribute to those that fell on 9/11/01.

They showed a vignette where Adrian Neville talked about how he is undefeated and he picked the Fatal Four Way match for tonight. Solid job to promote the main event.

CJ Parker asked for a match on the pre-show. He got Baron Corbin, who squashed him with a Flaceplant in seconds. Squash. The fans, who hate CJ Parker, chanted “Thank You Baron” after the match.

Next up was Tyson Kidd’s vignette promoting why he would win the Four Way tonight. Natalya is here to support her husband.

It’s time for the hair vs. hair match: Sylvester LeFort (with Marcus Louis) vs. Enzo Amore. Before the match, they showed Enzo and Colin Cassady dumping hair removal junk on Fifi the dog. Big Daddy Cass is with Enzo. Enzo cut his promo before the show, and the crowd was totally into it.

The match started and they told us the number one trend on Twitter in the world is Baron Corbin. Pretty impressive.

They went back and fort her early on until Enzo got caught up with Marcus and Syl got a two. Big Daddy Cass then took Marcus out and Enzo rolled up Syl, using the tights, for the win. Time for him to get shaved. Syl tried to run away but Big Daddy Cass nailed him with a clothesline. The fans chanted to get the bucket. Cass picked up Syl to take him to the the chair but Marcus saved him. Enzo and Cass came back and Syl ran. So they took Marcus and dumped it on his head (it is supposed to take off hair). … It was more of a spectacle than a match and was fine for what it was.

Next it was Tyler Breeze’s vignette for tonight’s main event.

Next up was the debut of KENTA. William Regal introduced a package for him. Then, he brought him out. He shook hands with Regal. Regal congratulated him and welcomed him to NXT. KENTA then spoke. He used a little English and then a lot of Japanese. I have no idea what he said. Then he went back to English and said it was a dream come true. He is happy to be in WWE and on NXT. He is starting over by announcing that as a tribute to one of his heroes, he will be known as Hideo Itami. His goal is to be NXT champion. The Ascension music hit and they came out and threw Itami out of the ring. They said they were in a bad move and asked for a rematch but Itami came back in and laid them both out. He then grabbed a chair and sat down the ring, challenging them to come back in. They didn’t. Good debut for KENTA, er Itami.
