DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 29

Welcome to Week 28 of 2014. After re-watching last week’s Impact, I didn’t notice that Tigre Uno was part of the #1 Contender’s Battle Royal. So, a loss has been added to his record. This week, WWE gave us our only July Pay-Per-View, Battleground, which was the 2nd annual Battleground, but first time the event was held in July, as it was held in October in 2013. Now, to this week’s news & notes.

On Raw, we started with Sheamus VS The Miz, in Miz’s 1st opener of 2014 & Sheamus’s 1st opener since Raw on June 9. It was a re-match from Main Event on April 1, making it the 3rd match to take place on Main Event & Raw twice. This was Sheamus’ 1st singles loss since losing to Fandango on Smackdown on February 14. Speaking of Fandango, he was in action next against Dolph Ziggler, in their 4th re-match. They have wrestled on Superstars on March 13, & on Raw on May 12 & June 30, making it the only match to take place on Superstars & Raw 3 times. Then, we were supposed to get The Usos VS Titus O’Neil & Heath Slater in a re-match from the previous week’s Smackdown. Bur to due to the attack by The Wyatt Family, the match never started, so it doesn’t count. Next, Rob Van Dam wrestled Alberto Del Rio, in their 3rd re-match. They last competed on Raw on April 14 & May 19, making it the 3rd match to take place only on Raw 3 times. Then, Nikki Bella wrestled the 1st time team of Cameron & Alicia Fox, in the 1st of 2 Handicap Matches on Raw. This was the 1st Handicap Match since Smackdown on July 11, & 2nd straight Handicap Match for Nikki. In the 2nd match of the night to take place 3 times exclusively on Raw, Big E took on Cesaro. Their other 2 matches were on Raw on February 24 & March 3. Then, in the 2nd Diva’s Match of the night, which made Raw the 2nd straight show to have 2 Diva’s Matches, AJ Lee wrestled Eva Marie, in a re-match from Smackdown on July 4. This was Eva’s 1st match on Raw since May 26 and the 16th match to take place on Smackdown & Raw. Next, for the 1st time, The Great Khali wrestled Bo Dallas. The match ended by Count Out, which was the 1st Count Out since Smackdown on July 11. In the main event, John Cena & Roman Reigns wrestled Kane, Randy Orton, & Seth Rollins in a 3-on-2 Handicap Match, making it the 1st time that Raw had 2 Handicap Matches. This brought the Gimmick Match count to 121 overall & 62 for WWE. This was Cena’s 6th Raw main event in a row, Rollins’ 2nd Raw main event in a row, Reigns’ 2nd straight main event after Smackdown, Orton’s 1st main event since Smackdown on July 4, & Kane’s 1st main event since Raw on June 30. The match ended in a Disqualification, making it the 5th week in a row that Raw had a Disqualification & 2nd straight show to have a Count Out & Disqualification.

On Main Event, Emma wrestled Cameron, in Cameron’s 3rd week in a row on the show. This was Emma’s 1st match on Main Event since May 13 & 1st match overall since NXT on June 12. In the final match of the show, in a re-match from Raw the night before, Sheamus wrestled The Miz. This was the 1st time that a match from Raw was re-matched the next night on Main Event. This was Sheamus’ 2nd week in a row on Main Event & Miz’s st match on Main Event since April 1, which was when Sheamus wrestled Miz prior to Raw. This was the 3rd week in a row that someone wrestled 2 weeks in a row & the 1st time since July 1 that Main Event had 3 matches.

This was the 1st official No Disqualification Match since Sacrifice on April 27, but there was a Street Fight on July 3. This was Rayne’s 1st match on Impact since June 12. This and the Gauntlet Match brought the Gimmick Match count to 123 overall & 64 for TNA. Then, in the main event, Jeff Hardy wrestled Lashley for the TNA World Title, which along with the X-Division Title brought the Title Match count to 96 overall & 42 for TNA. It was the 15th TNA World Title Match of 2014 & 1st since July 3, Hardy’s 2nd week in a row in the main event of Impact, & Lashley’s 1st match & main event on Impact since July 3. At the 2nd Annual WWE Battleground, which took place in October of 2013, we saw 2 matches on the Kick Off Show, wh1st ich was the 1st time that happened, & 1st Kick Off to have a match since Payback on June 1. First, we had Adam Rose VS Fandango in their 3rd re-match, as they wrestled on Smackdown on June 13 & July 11, making it the 1st match to take place on Smackdown twice & then on Pay-Per-View. This was the 1st Pay-Per-View opener for both Rose & Fandango. Then, for the 1st time Naomi wrestled Cameron, in both divas’ 1st match on Pay-Per-View since the Vickie Guerrero Invitational at WrestleMania 30 on April 6. Next, Seth Rollins came out to take his victory over Dean Ambrose by Forfeit, since Ambrose was ejected from the building. But the bell never rang, therefore it doesn’t count as an official match, so Rollins does not get a win & Ambrose does not get a loss in the standings. Then, in 2014 Pay-Per-View debut, Chris Jericho wrestled Bray Wyatt, in Jericho’s 2014 Pay-Per-View & Wyatt’s 1st match since Money In The Bank on June 29. The Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal was the 1st Battle Royal since Raw on June 16, the 1st Intercontinental Championship Match since Raw on June 23 & 9th Overall in 2014. This is Bo Dallas’ official 2014 Pay-Per-View debut, since his match against Kofi Kingston at Payback never started due to Kane attacking Kingston. The Miz winning the Intercontinental Championship was the 2nd IC Title Change of 2014, 1st since Bad News Barrett defeated Big E at Extreme Rules on May 4, 20th Title Change overall & 11th for WWE. Adam Rose & Xavier Woods also competed on NXT, making them the 1st wrestlers since Summer Rae & Rob Van Dam on June 26 & 29 to compete on NXT & Pay-Per-View in the same week.
