MAJOR CHANGE COMING TO WWE IN A FEW WEEKS, SPOILER ON WWE CHAMPIONSHIP

By Mike Johnson on 2014-07-20 12:32:53
As of Summerslam on Sunday 8/17, WWE will be officially switching over to their new logo, which is already seen on the WWE Network. As of that PPV, all of WWE's TV, promotional material, licensees, etc. will be using that logo. I won't be shocked to see WWE debut a new "open" to their shows that weekend as well.

One major thing that will change with the logo switch are the WWE championship belts, including the WWE World Heavyweight championship. WWE has ordered new championship belts with the new logo and will institute those belts around the same time period.

I was told that when John Cena handed Ric Flair the WWE version of the "Big Gold Belt" on Monday, that pretty much quietly "retired" the belt, but it should be noted that Cena had both belts with him at the house show last night in Florida.

If they do end up retiring the belt, that will be the second time they have retired the belt (the first being when Chris Jericho became the Undisputed champion). It's possible they are waiting for the changeover of the new physical belt with the new logo to finalize the change.

In the end, it's expected WWE will go forward with using the WWE championship belt as the "WWE World Heavyweight championship" from this point on. That was actually the original plan when the belts were unified at the 2013 TLC PPV but then WWE backed off on it and instead had both belts.
