BY THE NUMBERS: TAKING A LOOK BACK AT THE WEEK IN WRESTLING ON TELEVISION FROM WWE, TNA, AND ROH

By Richard Trionfo on 2014-07-21 07:05:36
Ring of Honor returns to the column with a mix of matches that were specifically for television and some matches from the Best in the World pay per view in Nashville. The structure of the show kept the total down because the pay per view matches were not included in the totals. The two short matches on this week’s show kept Ring of Honor from passing Main Event into the lead of the per match average rankings.

However, there was a change at the top for this week’s totals because for the first time since the week after Wrestlemania that Impact won the week. It is a bit of a coincidence that Impact also had 40 minutes of wrestling that week.

Raw finished in second place with 38 minutes of wrestling. Smackdown finished above the half hour mark with 31 minutes of wrestling to finish in third place. NXT took fourth place with 22 minutes of wrestling. For the first time since May 27th, Main Event broke into the 20 minute range and finished in fifth place. Superstars stayed out of the cellar this week and increased their totals to 13 minutes of wrestling. Ring of Honor’s two matches put the show in seventh place. This also allowed Ring of Honor to have an entry in the column this month. It appears that the next four weeks will feature qualifying matches because they announced that the Dearborn show would be featured next week.

Even though there was only 8 minutes of wrestling from Ring of Honor that qualified this week, it was enough to put this week’s total over last week. The 172 minutes of wrestling was 6 minutes more than last week and the highest total since the last time that Ring of Honor had a qualifying show at the start of June.

While I usually do not mix the monthly column totals into the weekly column in the middle of the month, but with Ring of Honor qualifying, we hit 300 hours of wrestling for the year on television. Next week, we will pass 5,000 minutes of wrestling on television and 6,000 minutes when pay per views are included for 2014.

We passed the 8,000 minute mark for Raw while Smackdown passed 6,600 minutes. In the 20 weeks since Main Event moved to the WWE Network, we have seen exactly 400 minutes of wrestling.

For the first time since the week of May 5th, we did not have a one minute match. During the nine weeks between, there were 31 one minute matches. During those same nine weeks, there were only 38 ten minute matches.

The times for the participants in the X Division Gauntlet Match were:
Austin Aries: 13 Minutes
Eddie Edwards: 8 Minutes
Manik: 4 Minutes
Davey Richards: 5 Minutes
Zema Ion: 1 Minutes
Crazzy Steve: 2 Minutes
Tigre Uno: 2 Minutes
Sanada: 6 Minutes

The time for the Alicia Fox versus Eva Marie match is from the bell until Alicia kicked Nikki Bella.

The wrestling times below cover the wrestling that takes place during the show so commercials are not included. All times are rounded to the closest minute (examples: a 4:23 match will be listed as 4 minutes while a 4:32 match will be listed as 5 minutes and anything under a minute is rounded up to a minute).
