DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 28
Welcome to Week 28 of 2014. As I was doing the Mid-Year Report, I found some discrepencies with the Win-Loss Records. They are now correct. I apologize for the error. Also, I hope you enjoy the Mid-Year Report, which should be up soon. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we started with the 7th re-match between The Usos & The Wyatt Family, making it the 3rd match to take place 7 times. They last wrestled at Money In The Bank on June 29. This was the 1st time that Jimmy Uso & Luke Harper wrestled in the opening match since Raw on June 23, Jey & Eric Rowan’s 1st opener since Smackdown on May 2, & Jey’s 50th Match of 2014. Then, we were supposed to get Nikki Bella against Alicia Fox, but the bell never rang, so the math doesn’t count. Then, in a 1st time match, Rob Van Dam wrestled Rusev. Next, Dean Ambrose wrestled Randy Orton in a re-match from Smackdown on July 4, making it the 1st time since the 4-on-3 Handicap Match on Smackdown on June 20 & Raw on June 23 that a match from Smackdown was re-matched the next week on Raw. Then, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Alberto Del Rio for the 5th time in 2014, with their last match being on Raw on June 2. This was the 850th Match of 2014. Next, Sheamus wrestled Damien Sandow for the 1st time in 2014. This was followed by the return of Chris Jericho, who competed on Raw for the 1st time since July 15, 2013 & 1st match overall since Smackdown on July 19, 2013. He wrestled The Miz, who was competing on Raw for the 1st time since January 27 & 1st time overall since the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30 on April 6. Next, AJ Lee teamed up with Paige for the 1st time to face The Funkadactyls. Then, for the 2nd week in a row, Kofi Kingston wrestled Cesaro, in their 3rd re-match, as they also wrestled on Smackdown on May 30. This was the 2nd week in a row that match took place 2 weeks in a row on Raw. Next, El Torito, competing for the 1st time on Raw since May 26 & 1st time overall since Payback on June 1, wrestled Bo Dallas. Then, in the main event, John Cena wrestled Seth Rollins. Rollins went from the opener of last week’s Raw to the main event of this week, which was the 1st time since Sheamus on May 19 & 26 to do that. This was Cena’s 5th main event in a row on Raw, Rollins’ 1st main event since Raw on May 5, & the 4th week in a row that Raw had a Disqualification.
On Main Event, Sheamus defended the United States Title against Alberto Del Rio, for the 1st time since Smackdown on July 4. This was the 5th time that Sheamus wrestled Del Rio, with their last match being on Smackdown on July 4, the 8th US Title Match of 2014, & 91st Title Match overall & 54th for WWE. This was the 1st time since Bo Dallas VS Fandango on June 20 & 24 that a match from Smackdown was re-matched on the following week’s Main Event. This was Sheamus’ 1st match on Main Event since June 17 & Del Rio’s 1st match on Main Event since April 29. The match was a Last Man Standing Match, making it the 1st Last Man Standing Match since Payback on June 1. The 2nd match was also a Gimmick Match, a 6-on-1 Handicap Match, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 116 overall & 59 for WWE. Even though Cameron didn’t come out with the rest of her team against Nikki Bella, she was still part of the team, therefore she will get a win in the standings This was Cameron, Naomi, & Nikki Bella’s 2nd week in a row on Main Event, Natalya’s 1st match on Main Event since May 6, Eva Marie’s 1st match on the show since April 15, Summer Rae’s 1st match on Main Event since March 25, & Rosa Mendes’ 1st match on Main Event since January 1. This was Rosa’s 1st match overall since the Vickie Guerrero Invitational at WrestleMania 30 on April 6. This was the 2nd week in a row that someone wrestled 2 weeks in a row on Main Event & the 1st time since June 3 that Main Event had only 2 matches.
On NXT, we started with a Diva’s Match between Bayley & Summer Rae. This was Bayley’s 2nd week in a row on NXT, Summer’s 1st match on the show since June 26, & both divas’ 1st opener since June 12. Rae also competed on Main Event, making her the 1st wrestler since Xavier Woods & Rob Van Dam on June 24 & 26 to compete on Main Event & NXT in the same week. Then, in his NXT debut, Sin Cara wrestled Wesley Blake, in his 1st match on NXT since April 17. This was Cara’s 1st win since Superstars on May 15. Next, Angelo Dawkins, in his 1st match since June 19, wrestled Bull Dempsey, in his 1st match since June 26. In the main event, we had 2 teams teaming up for the 1st time as Adrian Neville & Sami Zayn wrestled Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd. This was Neville’s 1st match & main event since June 26, Zayn & Gabriel’s 2nd week in a row in the main event of NXT, & Kidd’s 1st match & main event on NXT since June 19. This was Kidd’s 1st win since NXT on May 15, Gabriel’s 1st win of 2014, & Neville’s 1st loss of 2014, ending his undefeated streak at 15 matches.
On Impact, we had 3 Title Matches, bringing the Title Match count to 94 overall & 40 for TNA & 2 Gimmick Matches, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 118 overall & 59 for TNA. First, we had a Tag Title Re-Match between The Wolves & Bram & Magnus. This was a re-match from Impact on June 19, the 2nd consecutive week that the Tag Titles were defended, the 10th Tag Title Match of 2014, the Wolves’ 1st opener since May 29, Magnus’ 1st opener since May 15, & Bram’s 1st opener since June 5. Then, Sanada defended the X-Division Title against Austin Aries. This was the 1st X-Division Title Match since Impact on June 26 & 8th of 2014. The title changed hands, bringing the Title Change count to 19 overall & 9 for TNA, the 3rd X-Division Title Change of 2014, & 1st on Impact since Aries defeated Chris Sabin on January 23, as Sanada defeated Aries in Japan on March 2. This was the 1st time that the X-Division Title was defended in a singles match since TNA Sacrifice on April 27. Then, the Knockout’s Title was defended for the 2nd consecutive week, as Gail Kim defended against Brittany, Angelina Love, & Madison Rayne in a 4-Way Match. This was the 8th Knockout’s Title Match of 2014 & the 1st 4-Way Match since June 26. Then, in the main event, we saw the 1st Battle Royal for TNA in 2014, as they had Gauntlet Matches in the past. Kurt Angle wanted Jeff Hardy to compete instead of Willow, so that is what happened. Since they have acknowledged that Willow & Jeff Hardy is the same person, Jeff Hardy will assume Willow’s record. This is unlike Abyss & Joseph Park, who will be kept separate, because they never acknowledged that they were the same person. Bram, Magnus, & Sanada competed for the 2nd time tonight, marking the 1st time since June 19 that someone wrestled twice on the same episode of Impact. This was the 2nd straight main event for Eric Young, 1st for Jeff Hardy, Bram & Magnus since June 26, 1st for Ethan Carter III, Kenny King, Bully Ray since June 5, 1st for Bobby Roode since May 1, 1st for James Storm & Gunner since March 27, 1st for Rockstar Spud since March 13, & 1st Impact main event for Mr. Anderson, The Bro-Mans, The Menagerie, Manik, & Sanada. Bram & Magnus were the 1st wrestlers since Eric Young on Impact on June 19 to compete in both the opener and main event matches in the same show. The Bro-Mans & The Menagerie went from the opener of last week’s show to the main event of this week’s Impact, which was the 1st time since Austin Aries, Kenny King, Bobby Lashley, & MVP on May 29 & June 5 to do that.
On Superstars, Adam Rose wrestle Titus O’Neil, in a re-match from Smackdown on June 20, where they wrestled each other in 2 back-to-back matches. This was Rose’s 1st match on Superstars since June 26 & O’Neil’s 2nd straight week on Superstars. Then, competing in his 1st singles match on the main roster since Superstars on January 2 & 1st main roster match since the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30 on April 6, Tyson Kidd wrestled Curtis Axel. This was Axel’s 1st match on Superstars since June 26 & 1st singles win since Smackdown on April 25. Tyson Kidd also competed on NXT, making him the 1st wrestler since Xavier Woods on June 26 to compete on both NXT & Superstars in the same week.
On Smackdown, for the 1st time in 2014, the Divas opened up the show, with AJ Lee VS Cameron, in both divas’ 1st opener of 2014. This was the 3rd time they wrestled each other, as they competed at Elimination Chamber on February 23 & on Smackdown on February 28. Then, Adam Rose wrestled Fandango, in a re-match from Smackdown on June 13. The match ended in a Count Out, which was the 1st Count Out since Smackdown on May 9. Then The Usos wrestled the team of Titus O’Neil & Heath Slater for the 1st time. Next, in another 1st time match, Chris Jericho wrestled Randy Orton. Then, in a re-match from Money In The Bank on June 29, which was the 2nd match to be re-matched from that Pay-Per-View, Summer Rae wrestled Layla. This was the 1st time since Raw on June 30 that WWE had 2 Diva’s Matches. The match ended in a No Contest, which was the 1st No Contest since Raw on May 19. Summer also competed on Main Event & NXT, making her the 1st wrestler since Rob Van Dam on June 25, 26, & 27 to do that. Then, Goldust wrestled Curtis Axel in a re-match from Main Event on May 6, which was the last time Goldust competed in singles action. This was the 2nd match to take place on Main Event and then Smackdown twice. This was Axel’s 50th match of 2014, making him the 6th wrestler to compete in over 50 matches. Next, we had our 2nd Handicap Match of the week, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 119 overall & 60 for WWE, as Bo Dallas wrestled the Los Matadores of Diego & El Torito. In the main event, Roman Reigns wrestled Rusev, in Reigns’ 1st main event since Raw on June 30 & Rusev’s 1st main event since Raw on April 14. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 2nd Disqualification this week. This was the 1st time since Raw on May 19 that there was a Disqualification & No Contest on the same show and the 1st time since Smackdown on April 11 that there was a Count Out, Disqualification, & No Contest on the same show.
