DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 23

Welcome to Week 23 of 2014. This week is the 1st full week of June, as we’re almost halfway done with 2014. Now, to this week’s news & notes.

On Raw, we started with Sheamus VS Rob Van Dam VS Bad News Barrett & Cesaro, in Cesaro’s 3rd Raw opener in a row and 3rd consecutive Smackdown & Raw opener, Van Dam’s 2nd Raw opener in a row, Sheamus’ 1st opener since Raw on May 19, & Barrett’s 1st opener since Raw on April 21. Sheamus went from the main event of last week’s Raw to the opener of this week’s, which was the 1st time since The Usos on Smackdown on May 9 & 16 to do that. Sheamus actually went from the opener of Raw to the main event to the opener in 3 straight weeks. This was the 1st time since Smackdown on May 9 that Barrett & Cesaro teamed up and the 1st time in 2014 that Sheamus & Van Dam teamed up. Next, we had a match that we were supposed to get at WWE Payback, but it never began, as Kofi Kingston wrestled Bo Dallas. Since the match never started, at Payback, this match doesn’t count as a re-match. Then, John Cena wrestled Kane, in Kane’s 1st match since Extreme Rules on May 4 and 1st on Raw since March 31 & Cena’s 1st match on Raw since May 19. May 19 was also the last time that a match ended in Disqualification on Raw, though Smackdown had a Disqualification on May 23. Then, we had a re-match from Raw on April 28, as Los Matadores wrestled 3MB’s Drew McIntyre & Heath Slater. Next, we had Nikki Bella VS Aksana & Alicia Fox in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 94 overall & 47 for WWE. This was the 1st Handicap Match since Extreme Rules on May 4 and was Aksana’s 1st win since Main Event on March 25. Then, Adam Rose wrestled Jack Swagger, in a re-match from last week’s Smackdown, which was the 2nd week in a row that match from Smackdown was re-matched on the following week’s Raw. Speaking of re-matches, we then saw the 5th re-match between The Usos and The Wyatt Family, with their last match taking place on Main Event on May 27. This was the 6th match to take place 5 times and the 1st match to take place on Smackdown, Raw, Smackdown, Main Event, & Raw. Then, we saw Dolph Ziggler wrestle Alberto Del Rio for the 4th time in 2014. They previously wrestled on Raw on February 10, Raw on March 3, & Smackdown on March 14. This was Del Rio’s 1st win since Raw on April 28. Next, for the 1st time in 2014, Goldust had a different partner other than Cody Rhodes, as he teamed up with Sin Cara against Rybaxel. Since the scheduled main event of Roman Reigns & Randy Orton never started, this was Goldust & Cara’s 1st main event of 2014 & Rybaxel’s 1st main event since Smackdown on May 2. This was the 1st time since the Raw on the night after Payback 2013 on June 16 & 17 that a match from a Pay-Per-View was not re-matched the next night on Raw, ending an 11 Pay-Per-View streak. This was the 1st time since Raw on January 27 that a tag team match was both the opener and main event.

On Main Event, for the 2nd night in a row, Goldust had a new partner, as he teamed up with Kofi Kingston to face The Wyatt Family. This was Harper & Rowan’s 2nd week in a row on Main Event, Kingston’s 1st match on Main Event since April 29, & Goldust’s 1st match on the show since May 6. Then, we had the 1st re-match from Payback, as Rob Van Dam challenged Bad News Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship. This was their 3rd match overall, as they also wrestled on Raw on April 28. This was the 1st match to take place on Raw, Pay-Per-View, and Main Event, Barrett’s 1st match on Main Event since April 29, Van Dam’s 2014 Main Event debut, 69th Title Match overall, 44th for WWE, & 6th Intercontinental Championship Match of 2014. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 2nd Disqualification of the week. This was the 6th week in a row that someone wrestled 2 weeks in a row on Main Event and the 1st time since May 20 that there was only 2 matches on the show.

On NXT, we started with Mojo Rawley VS Aiden English, in both men’s 1st match on NXT since May 15, which was also the last time that they wrestled each other, making it 10th NXT only re-match. This was Rawley’s 1st opener since March 27 & English’s 1st opener since April 17. Then, in her 2nd week in a row, Charlotte wrestled Bayley, in her 1st match on NXT since May 1. This was the 1st time since January 8 that Bayley wrestled someone other than Sasha Banks, as on that show she wrestled Summmer Rae, and she was also part of a 6-Diva’s Tag Match, but Sasha was one of her opponents. Then, Tye Dillinger & Jason Jordan wrestled Stuart Cumberland & Philip Gouljar. This was Jordan’s 1st match on NXT since May 8, Dillinger’s 1st match on NXT since April 17, Cumberland’s NXT debut, and Gouljar’s 2nd match on NXT, as he competed as Casey Marion against The Ascension on February 19. In the main event, Adrian Neville wrestled Justin Gabriel, in Neville’s 3rd straight NXT main event and Gabriel’s 1st match and main event since April 10.

On Impact, we saw Willow wrestle Bram, in both men’s 1st opener since May 15. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 1st Disqualification since May 22. This was the 700th Match of 2014. Then, we had a battle of Tag Team Champions, as Davey Richards wrestled his partner Eddie Edwards, in both men’s 1st singles match of 2014. Next, Austin Aries wrestled Samoa Joe in Joe’s 1st match since April 3. The match ended in a No Contest, which was the 2nd week in a row that Impact had a No Contest. This was the 1st time in 2014 that Impact had both a Disqualification & No Contest. Then, we had our 5th Knockout’s Championship Match of 2014, as Angelina Love defended against Madison Rayne, bringing the Title Match count to 70 overall & 26 for TNA. This was the 3rd time that Rayne & Love wrestled each other, as they wrestled on Impact on March 27 and at Sacrifice on April 27. Then, we had the 1st ever First Blood Match, as Austin Aries, Samoa Joe, Bully Ray, & Eric Young wrestled Ethan Carter III, Kenny King, Bobby Lashley, & MVP, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 95 overall and 48 for TNA. This was Ray’s 2nd main event in a row, Young’s 5th main event in row, Lashley’s 1st main event since May 22, MVP’s 1st main event since May 15, Joe’s 1st main event since April 3, & Aries & King’s 1st main event of 2014. This was the 1st time since May 1 that someone wrestled multiple times on Impact. King, Lashley, & MVP went from the opener of last week’s Impact to the main event of this week’s, which was the 1st time since Willow & Magnus on May 15 & 22 to do that.

On Superstars, Paige wrestled Cameron, in Cameron’s 1st match on Superstars in 2014, 1st singles match since Smackdown on February 28, and Paige’s 1st match on Superstars since May 8, which was the last time that there was a Diva’s Match on Superstars. Next, for the 5th time, Big E wrestled Titus O’Neil, in Big E’s 2nd week in a row on Superstars and O’Neil’s 4th week in a row on the show. They last wrestled last week on both Superstars & Smackdown, making this the 1st match since R-Truth & Xavier Woods VS 3MB on March 20 & 27 that a match took place 2 weeks in a row on Superstars.

On Smackdown, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Seth Rollins in Ziggler’s 1st opener since Smackdown on May 23, Rollins’ 1st opener since Smackdown on March 28, & 1st singles match since Smackdown on May 19. Then, for the 6th time, The Usos wrestled Rybaxel. They wrestled on Raw on January 27 & February 10, on Smackdown on March 7, on Raw on March 10, and on Raw on April 28. This was the 2nd Match to take place 6 times in 2014, after Paige VS Alicia Fox. This was followed by the 3rd match to take place 6 times, as Xavier Woods wrestled Rusev. They wrestled on NXT on January 8, January 22, & March 13, and on Raw on April 14 & 28. Then, we had a Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship as Bad News Barrett defended against Cesaro & Rob Van Dam. This brought the Title Match count to 71 overall & 45 for WWE and the Gimmick Match count to 96 overall & 48 for WWE. This was the 3rd Intercontinental Championship match this week, after Payback and Main Event, and 7th for WWE and was the 1st Triple Threat Match since NXT on May 15 and 1st for WWE proper since Extreme Rules on May 4. Next, Natalya wrestled Alicia Fox, in Natalya’s 1st match on Smackdown since May 16 and Alicia’s 1st match on Smackdown in 2014. Thsis was a re-match from Superstars on March 20. Then, in a 1st time match, Santino Marella wrestled Bo Dallas. In the main event, The Big Show wrestled Randy Orton, for the 1st time in 2014. This was Show’s 1st main event since Smackdown on March 28 & Orton’s 1st main event since Raw on April 28. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 3rd Disqualification this week. This was the 4th straight Smackdown and 4th straight Smackdown & Raw that Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose of The Shield did not compete. Rollins did compete, but he’s no longer a member of The Shield.
