By Darren Bongiovanni on 2014-05-24 07:23:14

DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 21

Welcome to Week 21 of 2014. Next week, we will have the next NXT 2-Hour Special, Takeover. Like I did Arrival, I will count it as a regular episode of NXT and not as a Pay-Per-View, since it’s airing in the normal time period, albeit an hour earlier and for 2 hours. Also, following Smackdown next week will be the May Month in Review, and then on Sunday, we will have WWE Payback. But before we get to then, let’s get to this week. Now, to this week’s news & notes.

On Raw, we started the show with Sheamus VS Cesaro, in a re-match from Main Event on May 13, which was the 4th match to take place only on Main Event & Raw. It was the 1st match since The Big Show VS Titus O’Neil on March 18 & 24 to take place on Main Event and then the following week’s Raw. This was Sheamus’ 1st opener since Smackdown on May 8, Cesaro’s 1st opener since Smackdown on April 11, and Sheamus’ 1st singles loss since Main Event on April 29. Next, we saw a 1st time match, as Big E wrestled Ryback in a Beat The Clock Match. Then, we were supposed to get a Mixed Tag Team Match with R-Truth & Naomi VS Fandango & Layla, but Summer Rae attacked Layla before the bell rang, so the match doesn’t count. Next, Rusev wrestled Heath Slater, in another 1st time match. Slater became the 1st white guy to wrestle Rusev in WWE since his debut against Zack Ryder. In a re-match from Raw on April 14, Rob Van Dam wrestled Alberto Del Rio in another Beat The Clock Match. This was the 10th re-match to take place only on Raw. Then, Seth Rollins wrestled Batista in a re-match from Smackdown on May 9, becoming the 12th match to take place on Smackdown and then re-matched only on Raw. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 1st Disqualification since Smackdown on May 16, making it the 2nd Batista match in a row to end in a Disqualification. Then, Paige wrestled Alicia Fox for the 5th time, with their last match taking place on last week’s Raw. This was the 6th match to take place 5 times and 2nd Diva’s Match after Natalya VS Tamina Snuka. This was the 1st time since The Usos VS Batista & Randy Orton on April 7 & 14 that a match took place 2 weeks in a row on Raw. This was Alicia’s 1st singles win of 2014 and 1st win overall since being part of a 10-Diva’s Tag Team Match on Main Event on March 25. This was Paige’s 1st loss in WWE & 1st loss overall since a tag team match on NXT on April 24. Then, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Mark Henry, in a 1st time match. The match ended in a Time Limit Draw, since the clock expired in the Beat The Clock Match, making this the 2nd week in a row that Raw had a No Contest & the 1st time there was a Time Limit Draw in 2014. In the main event, John Cena wrestled Luke Harper. This was Cena’s 2nd straight main event in a row & Harper’s 1st main event since Smackdown on May 9. This was the 3rd time that Cena wrestled Harper, as they wrestled on Smackdown on March 21 & Raw on March 24, making it the 20th match to take place 3 times. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 2nd Disqualification of the night, which was the 1st time since May 2 that there was 2 Disqualifications. This was the 1st Raw since April 28 that we had a Disqualification & No Contest & the 1st time in 2014 that we had 2 Disqualifications & a No Contest. This was the 1st Raw of 2014 to have only singles matches and no tag team matches of any kind.

On Main Event, we started with R-Truth VS Damien Sandow. This was Truth’s 1st match on Main Event since January 29 & Sandow’s 2nd week in a row on the show. Sandow won, making this his 4th win of 2014 & 1st since Superstars on May 1, when he defeated Sin Cara. This was a re-match from Main Event on January 22, making it the 4th re-match to take place only on Main Event. Then, Naomi wrestled Aksana in a re-match from Raw on February 3, which was the 3rd re-match to take place on Raw & Main Event only. This was both Divas’ 1st match on Main Event since May 6, Naomi’s 1st singles match since Raw on March 31, & Aksana’s 1st singles match since Raw on April 21. Then we were supposed to get Mark Henry VS Cesaro, but the match never took place. Therefore, this is the 3rd time that Main Event had only 2 matches. The other times was on January 1 & April 1. This was the 4th week in a row that someone wrestled 2 weeks in a row on Main Event.

On NXT, we started the show with Big E VS Bo Dallas in Big E’s 1st match on NXT in 2014, Dallas’ 1st match on NXT since May 8, & 1st opener since May 1. This was Dallas’ final match in NXT since he lost, officially making him part of the main WWE Roster. Big E along with the next match participant, Paige, also competed on Raw, making them the 1st wrestlers since Emma, The Usos, and Paige herself on April 21 & 24 to compete on both Raw & NXT in the same week. Here on NXT, Paige wrestled Tamina Snuka in a re-match from Extreme Rules on May 4, making it the 1st match to take place on Pay-Per-View & NXT in 2014. This was Paige’s 1st match on NXT since April 24 & Tamina’s 1st match on NXT in 2014. Then, Adam Rose wrestled Camacho, in NXT’s 100th Match of 2014. This was Rose’s 1st match on NXT since May 1 & Camacho’s 1st match on NXT since May 8. The match ended in a Count Out, which was the 1st Count Out since Smackdown on May 9 & 1st on NXT since April 17. Since, he is on Raw, though he hasn’t wrestled yet, Adam Rose is now part of the main WWE Roster, so that is what he will be listed as here, going further. Then, in both Divas’ 1st match on NXT since May 1, Natalya wrestled Sasha Banks in the 2nd Semi-Final Match of the NXT Women’s Championship Tournament. Then, in the main event, Adrian Neville wrestled Curt Hawkins. This was Neville’s 1st match & main event since May 1 and Hawkins’ 1st match & main event since May 8.

On Impact, we started off with a TNA Knockout’s Championship Match between Brittany and Angelina Love, bringing the Title Match count to 62 overall & 25 for TNA. This was the 4th Knockout’s Title Match of 2014 & 1st since Sacrifice on April 27. This was both Knockouts’ 1st opener since May 8 and Brittany’s 1st singles match since Impact on March 13. Then, in a re-match from Impact on April 24, Austin Aries wrestled MVP. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 7th week in a row that Impact had a Disqualification. Then, we had a Falls Count Anywhere Match between Willow and Magnus, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 87 overall & 47 for TNA. This was the 1st Falls Count Anywhere Match of 2014 and was a re-match from Impact on May 8. This match along with Aries VS MVP was the 5th & 6th Impact only re-matches of 2014. Then, in the main event, Eric Young wrestled Bobby Lashley in Young’s 2nd main event in a row & Lashley’s 1st main event of 2014. This was Young’s 1st loss since April 3. This was the 1st time since April 10 that Impact had only 4 matches.

On Superstars, we started the night with The Big Show VS Titus O’Neil. This was 3rd time they wrestled each other, as they wrestled on Main Event on March 18 & on Raw on March 24, making it the 1st match to take place on Main Event, Raw, & Superstars, in that order. This was O’Neil’s 2nd week in a row on Superstars and The Big Show’s 1st match on Superstars in 2014. This was the 2nd week in a row that someone wrestled 2 weeks in a row. Then, Cody Rhodes wrestled Jack Swagger. This was Swagger’s 1st match on Superstars since January 2 and Cody’s 1st match on Superstars since February 27. This was Swagger’s 1st win since Main Event on April 8.

On Smackdown, we had a No Disqualification Match with Dolph Ziggler VS Batista, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 88 overall & 41 for WWE. This was the 1st No Disqualification Match since Extreme Rules on May 4, Batista’s 1st opener since Raw on February 24, & Ziggler’s 1st opener since Raw on March 24. This was the 3rd time that Dolph wrestled Batista, as they wrestled each other on Smackdown on February 28 and last week on May 16. This was the 1st time since Santino Marella VS Fandango on April 11 & 18 that a match took place 2 weeks in a row on Smackdown. Then, we had a Diva’s Tag Match with The Funkadactyls VS the 1st time team of Nikki Bella & Eva Marie. This was the 1st time that Nikki teamed up with someone other than her sister, Brie. This was the 2nd week in a row that a Diva’s Match had a Special Guest Referee, Eva Marie’s 1st match on Smackdown since March 7 & 1st match anywhere since Main Event on April 15, and The Funkadactyls’ 1st tag team match since Main Event on March 18, & 1st ever tag match on Smackdown in 2014. Then, we saw the WWE debut of Bo Dallas, as he wrestled Sin Cara. This was Cara’s 1st match on Smackdown since March 28. Dallas also wrestled on NXT, making him the 1st person since Emma on May 8 & 9 to wrestle on both NXT & Smackdown in the same week. Then, in the 3rd re-match between them, Sheamus wrestled Alberto Del Rio. They previously wrestled on Smackdown on February 28 & March 7, making this the 2nd match to take place only on Smackdown 3 times. The other match was Ziggler VS Batista earlier. The match ended in a Disqualification, making it the 3rd Disqualification this week, after 2 on Raw. Then, in the main event, The Usos wrestled The Wyatt Family, in their 3rd match against each other, as they wrestled on Smackdown on January 10 & Raw on January 20, making it the 1st match to take place on Smackdown, Raw, & then Smackdown. This was Harper’s 2nd main event this week, Rowan’s 2nd Smackdown main event in a row, & The Usos’ 1st main event since Smackdown on May 9. For the 2nd straight match, the match ended in a Disqualification, making it the 2nd time this week that there were 2 Disqualifications on the same show. This was the 2nd Smackdown in a row to not have The Shield on it.
