BUYING AD TIME ON OTHER CABLE NETWORKS TO INTRODUCE WWE PERSONALITIES, RUDE'S WWF DEPARTURE, WARRIOR DOC AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2014-04-26 10:00:26
In regards to the last documentary about the Warrior, Ultimate Warrior: ultimate Legend, I noticed they quoted Bruce Pritchard and Bobby Heenan from the Self Destruction DVD. Both documentaries quoted Hogan obviously changing his tone since. I noticed they interviewed Sarge as well but left out what he said from the DVD as well. I know that might be considered nitpicky, but was Pritchard unavailable or just not approached? What of Heenan? I can understand if he wasn't due to his health.

First of all, you have to remember that made that documentary and aired it after only a few days' production, so it wasn't like they were flying people in for the interviews. They filmed new material with people they had access too. Prichard no longer works for WWE and Bobby, unfortunately, isn't about to really enunciate anymore when he speaks and I don't believe he will see him on camera ever again.

Are you familiar with the situation with DragonGate talent and what happened to make them unavailable for New Orleans? I don't want to pass judgment on them and/or Gabe because I don't know details, but this just seems like a really crappy situation that could have been avoided. Your thoughts??

It was a work visa issue that thankfully for DGUSA, has now been resolved. Dragon Gate and DGUSA didn't announce their lineups for Wrestlemania weekend until the last minute because they were hopeful that talents would be able to head to New Orleans.

Do you know why Rick Rude left WWF so abruptly in 1990? If so, what was the reason? Also, how sweet would it have been to have seen a (heel) Rick Rude vs. (face) Macho Man feud, with Rude trying to hit on Elizabeth? Those matches would have been so great..

Rude had an issue with WWE over money owed. I was told by someone (and their memory may be faulty as this is a long time ago) that Rude was out injured but was still being advertised for events in a main event position - but wasn't being paid that money. So, Rude was upset that WWE was drawing money with his name but not paying him a proper percentage. He quit and walked out and when his WWE deal expired, moved on to WCW.

I'm glad WWE is introducing it's talent through vignettes again, as I believe most talent should be introduced that way, with the occasional surprise debut mixed in.. WWE has never done this to my knowledge, which is why this may not be a smart idea but, I thought I'd ask your opinion on it.. Do you think that WWE should try and buy commercial time on other channels during other shows, to air vignettes of a new talent debuting? Like, buy the ad-time and, instead of running a normal WWE commercial, just run a vignette of a character they feel like putting some stock into, with something tied in at the end about the person debuting on Raw on a certain date at the end of the commercial/vignette.. Something catchy, with a cool type of talent and gimmick that has a mass-appeal, mixed with WWE's slick production as a 30 second or so commercial and, air it on a channel(s) or show(s) aimed at a type of audience that WWE could possibly get to watch their show.. I believe it would give the talent the possibility of being bigger deal than just a normal vignette during the regular show. And also, possibly give the impression to an audience like, "this guy seems cool, I haven't watched wrestling in a while, I'm going to tune-in and see who and what this guy is about." I don't know, the idea may be dumb but, it at least seems like something that would be worth trying..

I don't believe the expense would be worth it. You are talking about ad buys of 90 seconds to 120 seconds at a time. Just no way to recoup that money.

I realize this is a silly question but after watching the Scooby-Doo Wrestlemania Mystery DVD with my 9-year old son, am I the only person who, when they took the mask off the Ghost Bear, secretly hoped that the gang would have declared "ERIC BISCHOFF!"?

That actually would have been pretty damn funny. Maybe next time!
