WHY WWE IS ASKING FOR GREATER RIGHTS FEES NOW, TOUGH ENOUGH RETURNING, HOW ONE GETS A WWE RELEASE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2014-01-16 10:00:35
When you hear of a wrestler, male or female, requesting and receiving a release from WWE or any other wrestling promotion what exactly happens when someone does that? Is it a quick process? Slow? Who do you need to see to have it done? In WWE's case is Triple H the person to see? Stephanie? Vince McMahon himself?

I love how you write "male or female" as if the process would be different because of their gender! It's pretty simple. If someone wants out of their contract, they have to get WWE to agree and then the two sides have to come to terms on the stipulations of that release. WWE isn't going to put time and money into make say Cody Rhodes (for example) and then let him walk out and go to TNA. That's understandable. Each situation is unique.

Am I the only person that thought when Stone Cold came out to talk at the WWE Network presentation there was a possibility of him being there to announce a new series of Tough Enough for the Network? It still baffles me as to why WWE and USA didn't do a 2nd series after the seeming ratings success of the 1st "revival" series. Do you think that it's possible that Tough Enough returns as a WWE Network show with or without Stone Cold as the host and will the earlier series' of the show be available at any point? To me it offers the perfect opportunity to keep Stone Cold involved with WWE without him needing to be in storylines and an equally good opportunity to utilize Booker T and have Trish Stratus (or even Sara Del Rey on TV seeing as Trish just had her son) as part of the WWE. Your thoughts?

Once the Network launches, the game changes for WWE. They can produce their own content and deliver it directly to their audience, as they will with Legends House. So, that will make doing a version of Tough Enough a lot easier to produce, as opposed to getting a network partner to agree to carry it. The downside is that WWE producing it themselves doesn't mean they will get rights fees for the content, but in terms of launching a new series, they can easily do that now.

Will current and former WWE wrestling stars be receiving any residuals from matches past and present featured on the WWE Network?

That's the million dollar question WWE talents are wondering about. Thus far, there's been no answer.

Will Batista be getting his own private dressing room or will he preparing for his scheduled match alongside his fellow wrestlers?

Everyone dresses together.

Currently, the WWE is not pulling in the same type of ratings as they did during the Monday Night Wars. How is it that the WWE will be able to pull in a huge amount of money on their new TV deal when their ratings are no where near where they were during the Attitude Era?

They make a lot more in rights fees now then they ever did before and the belief is that they, like professional sports, are DVR proof, since the audience wants to watch it unfold live as it happens. Thus, WWE feels they deserve the type of money that major sports franchises have gotten in the past, most recently NASCAR.
